LC2 Alice Packs?

You couldnt pay me to carry one of those with a load.

Better packs at decent prices are available on civi street.

They are tough though I will give them that.

Skam

Yes, but you won't find a better frameless pack (obviously assuming he's going to go frameless) or one at that price.

I've since moved on from my ALICE packs to what I consider better, although I paid a LOT more, and most don't like my choices as they are frameless canvas and leather rucks.

I'm with you CPL.

The ALICE frame is a torture device. It pulls the pack away from your body and it's exhausting to compensate for. I've started to go frameless and lighter.

I'm planning on trying my big ALICE without a frame just to see if it will work as a "lightweight" backpack.

for what its worth i would also go with the frame so if you need it you have it because when you need it you'll really need it...and remember, when you dont need it you can take it off.

i tried mine without the frame and hated it.with the frame its good.i have the medium and the one blackhawk makes.the bh one kicks ass....good luck

I thought the "large" could only be carried with the frame (AKA "kidney killer").

The notion that the weight of a pack should be shifted from the shoulders to a belt around the waist was formulated by a Union Army surgeon during THAT war (wood stays from the pack to pockets in a wide cartridge belt). It took the military well over a century to rediscover what he discovered. Kelty was faster.

I wonder if some plastic would be better for the frame - something that a GI could not break or bend beyond recovery. Kevlar?

Actually, the frame fits me perfectly, I just think it's overkill for the medium. And yes, the straps cannot be attached directly to the large pack, you need the frame for it.

I do still use the frame (and only the frame) for hunting because it's great for lashing a carcass to and easy to pack out that way.

FWIW, I hate internal frame packs, if I have a framed pack, it's an external frame.
