LC200N

Has anyone else had any corrosion issues with LC200N?

Mine has been very minor, but it was very surprising when it happened.

Basically I used it to cut up some sea mullet for bait and gave it a quick rinse in the salt water; there was probably still some bits of fish flesh left on the blade. About 6 hours later when I came home, I took it out to clean it properly and I noticed a rust spot on either side of the blade about 1/16 - 1/8 inch diameter. The rust spot was easily wiped away but I had tiny pitting spots left from it (one on one side and two close together on the other side).

Before this happened I had considered LC200N almost rust proof.

I've only had my L200N knife (Spyderco Salt wharncliffe) for a couple weeks, but I tend to use my Salts in nasty stuff, and monsoon season is about to start, so I'll let you know if anything goes badly.

I picked up a Spyderco Subway Bowie at their factory store in Golden last September. I’ve used it as a neck carry / secondary carry in those 9 months with the exception of maybe 3 or 4 days. It is a great knife and I like the steel. It has cut everything I have wanted it to and I have cycled, kayaked, hiked, fished, hunted, traveled, and kicked around doing anything with it around my neck and it has held up great. Other than snail trails along the blade, it looks as good as the day I got it.

Yeah I get very small rust and staining on lc200n. It's a step down from h1 for sure

It's been remarked that a few times LC200N has shown rust from belt contamination. But in most if not all of those there was no pitting or damage when cleaned promptly.

I have the chef and the subway. Happy with the steel for sure, holds an edge and is very easy to sharpen. I feel it's just a really niche steel that most other makers had bypassed because of the investment and then with Magnacut just jumped over.

Magnacut is great but lc200n offers increased toughness and corrosion resistance.

But edge rention has become the king attribute these days.
Personally i'll take a balance more towards the other two attributes.

This is my understanding as to why 14c28n isn't way more popular and only considered a really good steel in the budget world.
