I like to carry my mini-SOCOM. It's a great utility size knife for me. But it is still rather alarming to take it out in a waiting room to quickly cut out an article or coupon. I can't imagine pulling out the new LCC in a public area...and try to keep it concealed to slice an apple for lunch. I cut through tape on boxes, open letters, slice fruit on a regular daily basis...more so than slicing up or scaring off felons.

What I'd like to see is a small sized LCC!
2.5". That would be light enough for the pocket bottom of my dress slacks or jeans. Not quite as bulky. Yet it would be a high quality MicroTech. The LCC is more elegant looking than the SOCOM. And IMHO, the LCC looks more like a "gentleman's" folder, rather than the current trend of military /tactical styled folders.

BTW, I visit a local knife and tool shop several times a month and I have noticed that many high school boys are carrying large (4"+) tactical folders...they are armed to the teeth. Do they really want to slice into a human body when pissed off?
It seems to me that big tactical style knives are the current rage. I think their peers would laugh if one of them pulled out a handsome William Henry folder...

BTW, who started the "tactical folder" rage?

I agree with you about a smaller LCC. Something about 2.5"-3" would be ideal. It seems to me that there is a real disconnect between what many knife lovers consider a reasonable pocket knife and what the general public is comfortable with. Most non-knife people imagine an SAK sized knife when they hear the words pocket knife. I know many knife guys say that their carry habits won't be dictated by "sheeple" but I carry a knife primarily as a utility item. If it is so big that I can't take it out without scaring people, it is really useless to me.

As for the size of tactical folders like the LCC, I think it is simply a function of the market. Knife guys want big knives. If MT or anybody else could make big money selling smaller knives then they would sell them in a heartbeat. Finally, as I have said many times before, I like big knives (8" OAL+) , I just think that they are not very practical for everyday carry.

I think the tactical knife rage was started by a combination of folk, but if you had to have one name, it would have to be Bob Terzuola. Many dont know but he was the first to use a thumb disc as one hand opener.
And of course Spyderco has to get some credit for popularizing the clip and one-hand opener(hole) for utility knives.
Then there is also the master of hype and self-promotion Emerson whose customs havent really been customs in years.
Another person who helped the trend was Greg Walker, the old editor of Fighting Knives Magazine. He was the only one really showing and talking about fighting/utility folders while the others played their politically correct games.
Then along came Tactical Knives Magazine and the name took off and everyone else and their brother has jumped in.
Anyway, just my .02 on it.

A mini LCC would be a nice knife, but the large one isn't exactly a "megafolder" at 3.5 inches of edge, so you should be able to slice the average bagel with it without the point finding the palm of your other hand when you make the circular cut. It's also nice to be able to bring a tbe whole edge down on the cutting board when you're making lunch, and the stonewash finish is a lot easier to clean up afterwards than bead blast.

What? Greg Lightfoot doesn't promote it as a lunch-making knife? I thought that little shark logo on the clip was a symbol of a healthy apetite!

A knife is by default a tool, it's only a weapon when a human chooses to make it so.

The LCC is awesome..
Perfect size, fits great in the hand, true Tactical/Combat Knife..

Greg's Customs are Heavy Duty real world users..

If the LCC didnt say 'Microtech' on the Blade you would think it was a true custom made piece..

The way I see it is if a person does not like the looks of my knife they can turn their heads. That whats wrong with this country,we have to bow down to everyone.

LCC stands for Lightfoot Compact Combat I believe...there is nothing compact about this knife. I think it is actually modeled after the Warhead not the LCC. I owned a custom LCC and it is half the size of MicroTech. Just my 2 cents

I happened to be talking to Microtech about another matter yesterday and asked if a smaller or mini LCC was in the works. The answer was NO!

The LCC is perfect size for me. I like a knife that has some weight to it. I can't find anything wrong with the LCC the way it is, except for the weak pocket clip that bends every time I catch it on the steering wheel of my truck.

I'm flying out to Vegas in October. I can't wait to try and get past the security clones. It certainly can't be called menacing.

Most of the Special OPS Units I work or train with carry 6-7" Fixed Blades..
I would say that the LCC is a very compact Tactical Knife..
It doesnt bother me to open it anywhere..
I like, carry and use large knives..
I find the LCC perfect for a midsize folder..
If you require a small knife the LCC may not be the choice for some..

Clearly you can't satisfy everyone, but I think for a tactical knife, the LCC is the minimum size if not the perfect size. If you want a smaller knife, you might look into gentleman's folder line, ie: William Henry serise, BM gent knife(forgot model#)..... If you want a knife that won't scare lots of ppl, get a old-school pocket knife, like a schrade or something. There's trade off for everything, for LCC I think it's perfect for what it suppose to be.

I think the LCC is great. The size and weight just feel perfect. Don't worry about people looking at you funny when you use a big knife like that they'll get over it.

Thanks for all of your prompt replies.

I think the LCC is one of the finest values in a mid sized elegant looking folder. It's just a tad too large for my needs. If I could shrink it down...
That would be a great size for me when opening a box, letter or even cutting through a PVC cable jacket, and removing Teflon dielectric once in awhile for a splice. Yet good looking (IMHO) even for dress. I'd like it to be sharp enough to cut through rope like butter, and if needed, anything else.

My mini-SOCOM is my favorite work knife. I love the way the blade holds it edge and slices through everything. The blade comes out quickly with a thumb flick and locks up with a solid low toned "thwack". It's a solid superb quality folder that's hard to beat.

Now...I'm looking for something a little smaller. I'd like to duplicate the MicroTech's fine quality in a slightly smaller, less tactical folder.

I have started to look at smaller high quality models. One from Chris Reeve: the decorated Umfaan which has a 2.5" blade.

Also I'm looking at the William Henry line of smaller carbon folders.

My son wants to buy me something for my birthday! I've hinted plenty.

Any suggestions for a very high quality utility pocket folder apx. 2.5" or so blade that's easy opening, liner locking, and light weight?

Thanks in advance!
