Well, perhaps they are not brothers, but there is quite the resemblance between the Carothers LC and the Keffeler Sasquatch. Both are ∆3V, both have TeroTuf scales with great ergonomics, and both are awesome blades. My Sasquatch just arrived today so I thought I would take a few comparison pics and post them up for anybody else that is also interested in both blades.

For those curious about the Sasquatch specs, it has a 13" blade, weighs 2 lbs 4 oz, and is 0.296" thick.

Nope, it came shrink wrapped to a pallet. Haha

Holy crap that thing is a monster!!

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on it's performance vs whatever variation of LC you chose to compare it against.

Thanks guys!

Hey, that's a beast. We are all in a stir. How can I order one ? Does he have a website? Tell us how you purchased it... I think my son and I need one each. Is it machined? I see a fuller. I live fullers.

I love mine. I got it with the blade uncoated.

Here is another pic of the two alongside some of my other favorite large knives. I have received a lot of questions via PM about the Sasquatch, so I'll answer a couple of them here because other people likely may have similar questions. The fullers and chamfering are done by machine. Also, there is some milling of the primary bevel to remove some material, but the blade is hand ground by Dan from 36 grit to finish. The finish on the blade is a combination of sandblasting and high pressure ceramic bead blasting to create a micro peening finish. I really love the finish, but it sounds like Dan may not offer it on future releases for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that it is a complicated finish to achieve. Anyways, back on topic, I plan to do some back-to-back chopping comparisons between the LC and the other knives in the pic this weekend. I'm looking forward to seeing how they compare. Blade length and mass is of course a big part in a high performing chopper, but there are many other things that make a great knife a great knife.

For someone contemplating whether to try for a LC during the next sale that would be awesome. Looking forward to your comparison and comments.

Without question, buy it! It's a super comfortable knife to use, it's extremely rugged, and it's light enough to put in your pack and not feel like you have a brick in there. It's not necessarily a heavy hitter like some of the others in the pic, but it certainly isn't a slouch.

What a great group of blades. I really like the aesthetics of the Keffler. How do you like the handle in comparison to the Fusion handle on the Busses? The Fusion handle is a little big for me. Usable, but big.

The aesthetics are awesome on the Keffeler, and it feels great in hand. The palm swell is a bit different than the Fusion handle on the Busse's, but my hunch is that I'll like how it feels when chopping. I agree that the fusion handle on the Busse's is a bit big if it has magnum scales, but with normal / skinny scales it feels quite good to me. For extended chopping sessions I believe that a thicker handle does help quite a bit with reducing hand cramps. Also, when I'm doing a lot of chopping I like to use a forward lanyard which really adds a feeling of security when using knives with larger scales, plus it's a good safety precaution.

Here I am trying to convince myself that I need an LC and then I see this beast. Actually, it makes me think "Huh, next to that thing, the LC looks like a regular ol' knife." Maybe I need one after all.
