Hello, does anyone know where I can buy some 4" or 5" diameter grinding wheels that have a lead or other soft material core? I have a polishing machine w threaded spindles So I need some wheels that will conform to those but I can't find them anywhere. I know they exist as the store and school I used to work at had them but nobody there knows where to get them now. Thanks!

You don't need or want the lead core wheels. Regular wheels will work on tapered spindles. You just put them on while the motor is running and work them up bit by bit by grabbing them with a gloved hand while spinning. There are wheels with a "shellac" treatment around the hole, which is nice, but not a requirement..

FYI, the lead centered wheels were discontinued because of health and safety legality issues. The hard center wheels have plastic cores, now. They are OK, but the core is not really needed as said above.

You can trust me on this one, I have used hundreds of buffs over the last 40 years.

All the standard suppliers sell buffs. You can usually get a larger variety from a jewelry supply, like Rio Grande or Stuller. You will have to get a jeweler friend to order from Stuller for you. http://www.riogrande.com/Product/Loose-Weave-Coarse-Muslin-Buffing-Wheel-6-x-50-Ply/330523?Pos=28
