hello BF,
I have 2 knives today, that need new homes
I am a new maker here on BF, but long time member.
I have a small shop here at my house, with minimal tooling. I hand forge, bench grind the profile, and draw file and file the blade flats..edge quench after annealing, and temper in the oven.
I have tested both these knives with simple methods, such as a flex test (nothing to crazy) and chopping and cutting to make sure the edge will last.
I also use a brass rod to check for a proper temper.
My finish is not nearly as refined as most of the makers here, but I am fond of that "hand forged finish" look, so I am going to stick with it.
All my hidden tang knives wooden and leather parts are stabilized in wood hardener before assembly.
All steel handle parts are hand forged from scraps I find or saved.
Well, hopefully you guys and gals like em.
Thanks
Gene
Sale is US only, and payment is USPS money order, or personal check. Thanks
First is a primitive style camp knife, forged from a 1976 Pontiac Firebird leafspring...I call the blade shape a "fighting parang" with a convex edge.
The handle is Jute twine soaked in epoxy over black dyed leather soaked in epoxy.
Sheath is distressed 9oz. vegi-tanned, saddle stitched over a kydex liner for modest retention.
This knife is a light and fast bruiser.
Overall specs.
Blade length is 6-1/8"
overall length is 11-9/16"
blade thickness (thickest point) 1/4"
Steel 5160
price: $110 shipped and insured.
Second knife:
Made from the same leaf spring, is a full tang utility style knife.
Leaf shaped blade, convex edge.
Handle is retained with stainless tubing over black micarta liner with ghost jade micarta slabs.
I added some "gription" to the handle slabs, which I think looks pretty cool.
The sheath is also 9oz vegi-tanned leather stained dark brown, and saddle stitched over a contact cemented welt..retention is excellent.
A very nice rustic, yet modern package.
Specs:
Overall length is: 8-7/8"
blade length is: 4-3/8"
Thickness (thickest point) 1/8"
$110 shipped and insured.
