The pack knife, this one is about the same size as the one on my hunting pack. not so heavy that you leave it at the truck, yet still a lot of cutting potential to get you out of a bind!

this one was forged out of a leaf spring from my friends ranch, have no idea what vehicle it came off of, but he said they quit adding to that pile a few decades ago. knives ive forged from these springs have cut very well.

OAL- 20 1/2"

blade- 12 1/4" long, .225" thick, 2 1/8" wide

steel- leaf spring, Forged, with in-house differential heat treatment which includes triple normalize, triple anneal, triple edge quench, and triple draw, for a great performing blade, that holds a great edge, and yet is easy to sharpen!

grind- a flat grind, with a convex edge, sharpened on a smiths diamond hone with micro bevels, to an agressive razor edge

finish- hammer finish, with a rough 220 grit machine finish on the bevels under a scotchbrite belt finish, for a rough and ready, easy to maintain working finish

handle- leather slabs, wrapped in jute cord, and soaked in epoxy

guard- no guard on this one, but the handle is contoured to steer your hand away from the cutting edge

sheath- 10oz leather, hand stitched, clean, dyed, hot-waxed, loop is sized for a 2" belt. personally I keep a blade like this one strapped to my pack instead of on my belt

before I put a handle on her, I cut a 2x4 in half twice, and the edge would still shave. it also passed an edge flex test, and put about half my wieght {210 lbs}to flex the blade sideways in a vise to check for toughness.

Thanks guys!!

pittsteele- the handle holds up really well. since the whole handle after the wrapping is soaked in epoxy, it pretty much turns it into mycarta. The ones that I have hammered off the tang have shown that the epoxy penetrates the jute, and starts to penetrate the leather slabs underneath. Its a really good handle material.

Looks like it belongs in " the book of Eli". I'm lovin this thing but already bought three knives in two weeks " gotta chill out a little".

I have this exact chopper. Let me tell you, it'll do the job. Not only will it chop, but slice as well. I had to cut up a double thick cardboard box, & I just pushed the blade right through without sawing. You'll be very happy with one of these. I've got 2 of them.
