this one was forged out of a leaf spring from my friends ranch, have no idea what vehicle it came off of, but he said they quit adding to that pile a few decades ago. all the knives/choppers ive forged from these springs have cut very well.

OAL- 19 1/2"

blade- 12 1/2" long, .258" thick, 2" wide

steel- leaf spring, Forged, with in-house differential heat treatment which includes triple normalize, triple anneal, triple edge quench, and triple draw, for a great performing blade, that holds a great edge, and yet is easy to sharpen!

grind- a flat grind, with a convex edge. sharpened on a smiths diamond hone with micro bevels, to an agressive razor edge

finish- hammer finished spine, with a 400 grit machine finish on the bevels under a fine scotchbrite belt finish, for a rough, easy to maintain working finish

handle- jute cord wrapped over leather slabs, soaked in epoxy twice for a very grippy handle

guard- no guard on this one, but the handle is contoured to steer your hand away from the cutting edge

sheath- 10-11 ounce leather, clean, dyed and hot waxed

I cut a 2x4 in half twice, and the edge would still shave. it also passed an edge flex test, and put about half my wieght {210 lbs}to flex the blade sideways in a vise to check for toughness.

That there is a lot of pounding, Joe. Power hammer?

NOW That's a KNIFE!

I'll take it... it just looks like too much fun to pass up.

Paypal inbound...

Thanks

Gerry- yep, I built a powerhammer, it is a lot easier to forge these out now, although I have made quite a few by hand and you are right that is a lot of pounding!

KDstrick- Thanks!! this one is yours! she will be on her way to you today!

I like how you gave it a drop-point Joe. Would not mind getting one like this from you myself.

okay just had a knive-gasm as i saw that one

man i need a job ! and when i got hone i will hog all of Joes time ! ALL OF IT ! MUAHAHAHAHA

Great looking chopper! You should post a video of you using your power hammer that would be pretty cool.

Thanks guys!!!

akthor- sorry, but I don't have a video of my hammer. but the hammer that I based it on is called Gunnhilda, by james helm {stormcrow on here} and a quick yahoo search should get you a video of it.

I've been putting this bad boy through it's paces all weekend... It is a BEAST! Chops exceptionally well even on very hard, dry wood. It's holding it's edge nicely as well.

The pictures really do not do it justice... it is much bigger than it looks. I love this knife... :D
