I've always had trouble when trying to put multiple keywords in for a search. It always returned that "no threads found". I was looking for an old thread by blgoode titled "grinding false edge".

I finally went advanced and put the keywords as follows:

grinding; false; edge

It returned only that thread! The semicolons made a huge difference!!

Just thought I'd share this with all of you.

Always good to learn new tricks, thanks for the tip.
I had almost given up on the internal search and starting using the customized Google Search that Spark had recommended for the Registered Users, it find most all threads that I have searched for. But, I will try your tip on my next hunt for information.

That's incredible. I had tried a trick that works elsewhere, enclosing a phrase in "quotes" but it didn't work here. This is really going to help. Thank you!

Has anyone else gotten this to work? I keep getting a page error. I'd like to find out what I'm doing wrong. I have tried: "grinding; false; edge" (with the spaces, no quotes) and gotten the page error screen and then specified user BLGoode with the same result. I then tried "grinding;false;edge" and got a "no results match" report.

Any help would be appreciated. I'd LOVE to know some search operators for multi-term searching.

I'm not getting it either. Scott, exactly where did you put this? Advanced Search, with what else besides grinding; false; edge? Did you also specify the forum or the range of dates? Did you specify blgoode?

Back to Google: I did not find anything but a blank page and "Done" in corner.
:grumpy:
EDIT: Went to google, pasted in exact phrase that he did with the semi colons, found the archived thread as #1 find.:):):)

I got it, I got it! Go to Advanced Search, put it in Key Word(s): then Search Titles Only.

Yes, sir! I tried it again with trick; search; function and it found this thread, so it does not need the exact title, just relevent terms. It did not work on new; trick; search; function , I guess because new is too common.

Using "grinding false edge" without the semi-colons but "Titles only" also returned BLGoode's thread as the only hit, too. .

Great! Thanks!

I had copied this to Service and Support prematurely, then deleted it there pending figuring out the glitch.
Now we need to link it there for better exposure. It should get added to the S&S Search Engine FAQs & Tips.

I guess I should have been more specific about how I searched, but hey, they say that doing something helps you learn it better. Right? I'm glad you all were able to figure it out during the time between my log ons.

That thread really helped me, since I ground my first false edge yesterday and it went better than expected.

I keep getting the "cannot display page" message regardless of how I try it.

Make sure under the options you have set it to "any date" the default is two weeks and will not bring up anything.
