Learned a valuable survival lesson today

Wow, I was just working through a set up for a vehicle kit. I'm looking to base it on a 42" rifle bag. Basically an all in one that I can grab and go, so that nothing gets left behind. It would be nice and thin, so it could fit easily behind the seats in a regular cab pick up, or in the trunk of a car or rear of an SUV etc.

This just hammers home the need to get it up and running sooner.

I'll post pics when I get it together.

That's a great I idea to use a rifle bag. I might have to think about that.

Apparently car thieves sometimes use a spark plug to shatter car glass by throwing it at the window.

Great reminder.
And good thinking on not getting him out of the car. My mothers good friend was helped into a serious hip condition after being run over by a car, because the passers by insisted on taking her up and sitting her into a chair with a broken hip.

I need to put that blanket in my car - during winter I have an extra blanket.

Jeff, did you try stabbing in the lower corners of the window? That should have worked, I'd be astounded if you tried this and it didn't. I'd think it would have had all the support it would need.

The old-school car antennas with the ball on top work perfectly as well. Done that a few times.

A good automatic center punch found at the local hardware store will take out any non laminated glass without the risk of flying glass

falling glass can still get you though. wear gloves if you can, if you cant try to protect your hands with sleeves.

Thanks for sharing. My wife picked up a 2 pack of Craftsman soft tool bags recently. 13" and 18" I have one in the truck with the tools and such I keep around so I can grab it and move it to the others pretty easy.

My fiancee and I each carry one of these on our key chains.

I wonder if the glass breaker on a Spyderco Assist will work on a rolled down window...

I was just thinking this when I read your post. My dad passed away acouple of years ago and was a life-long machinist. I have a Starrett automatic-center punch and figured it would work to break glass. I guess it is staying in the truck.

I was in an extrication class once(same one I learned the antenna trick from) and they showed us that. The instructer broke a spark plug and threw the bits at a window. It shattered no problem. Pretty neat....

I don't find too many broken spark plugs laying around ;) While I like the small glass breakers, my experience yesterday still tells me I want a heavy tool to use both as a breaker and a pry bar.

Thanks for reminding me. I need to put my RC-5 back in the Jeep. I bet that one can break a car window!

I broke an open window by accident by pulling outward. Didn't even pull that hard, and it just popped.

Well, good grief, you're a wookie. Of course a wookie can tear a whole car apart, let alone a little old window.
