Can anyone tell me if there is a site on the internet or something that I can look at to understand more about knives? I looked at Spyderco's site and they had a lot of helpful info, but I felt there was more I could learn. I'm just interested in learning about different steels, grinds, materials, knife mechanisms and so on, as well as different brands of knives. I'm pretty much looking for a knife supersite... if there is such a thing, lol. Any help fellas? I feel somewhat lost when browsing these forums and hearing some stuff I've never even heard of. Thanks!

You are at the knife supersite. It's so super, that it will take you quite a while to wade through it all.

Just spend enough time here and you'll figure it out. Just search and ask, and you'll pick it up quickly.

I looked at Spyderco's site and they had a lot of helpful info, but I felt there was more I could learn. I'm just interested in learning about different steelsHotly debated topic, and ever changing. Knife makers love trying new steels for blades. Stainless steel: enough chromium to be very resistant to rust. Carbon steel: Very simple and generally cheaper steels with iron, carbon, and not much else mixed in them. Alloy steels: steels with other elements added to them, so they can do things plain carbon steels can't do. Stainless steel is a category of alloy steels., grinds Basically there is hollow ground, flat ground, and convex ground. Hollow is done between 2 wheels very close to each other, so you get arc cut into the sides of the blade. Some makers do it one side at a time, but 2 wheels make it easier to visualize the shape. Flat ground blades are basically very skinny triangles. Convex ground blades are sort of the opposite of hollow ground. The sides of the blade are 2 arcs, but they curved side is pointed out, instead of in like hollow grinds. There are variations of each of these, but thats the main 3., materials many materials used in knives. Steel and other metals for blades, wood and other stuff for handles, guards, and other items. There is a lot to cover here. Looking up or asking about specific materials will get a lot of information., knife mechanisms The main ones are lock back, liner lock, Axis lock, slip joint, a few other lesser known ones. There are many variations of each, some copyrighted or otherwise exclusive to particular companies. and so on, as well as different brands of knives Many brands, from the $2 entry style knives to high end factory and custom work costing $1000's. Many are represented here in their own forums, such as Spyderco.. I'm pretty much looking for a knife supersite... if there is such a thing, lol. Any help fellas? Really, you're there. Pick a topic and use the search function. Whatever it is, it's been discussed here since 1998 or so. Pick a topic and start asking here. I'll summarize. See bold comments above.

still, i don't know a lot about the specifications on steels or more technical matters nor do i need/want to.
i just enjoy knives:)
ever since joining a few forums i started to pick things up fairly quickly so the same will happen to you if you dedicate to it a bit;)
people are giving you some good advices here.

In the short time I've been here, I've amassed more knowledge than I have in 11 years of knife collecting alone...Trust me, this is the knowledge base for everything knife related.

Well, I feel dumb now, :o
