Least favorite pattern?

I have two george wostenholm folding canoe knives. One is Pearl, the other is iveory or horn/bone. Do you know of anyone who may be interested in these. I am from England.

I'm not big on the Congress pattern either.....but I'm old enough to know my preferences can change. I used to think that the Trapper pattern was the "bees knees" and I had little use for the Stockman. Now I much prefer the Stockman over a Trapper....go figure ? I never tire of a nice Canoe pattern though.....and I respect eveyones individual choice.

There are styles I wouldn't buy for myself, but if they were given to me I'd use them. I wouldn't buy a toothpick, congress, or seahorse. My most favorite is the stockman though, not really sure why it just is.

Sun Fish/Elephants Toenail, just too dang big and bulky, and them giant spear shaped blades, ugh-ly.

Isn't there a SAK now without a knife blade?
What in all the hells would I want one of those for?!?

Gotta go with congress pattern too. Something about that back-breaking arch.

The fish-cleaning folder just seems like a bad idea. Imagine all of the 'gunk' that would get into the knife - makes my stomache churn. And they're ugly.

The seahorse pattern is interesting - I like it, but don't own one.

For fixed blades, upswept skinners and gut hooks are no-buys.

Just my 2c, since you asked.

Have to agree with everyone on the fishing knives, but I am pretty fond of the toothpicks they are generally based on.

In my fist post I said I didn't care for the congress pattern, I still don't. But since starting this thread I stumbled on an older Winchester Congress style that actually looks appealing to me, so it's on the way and should be delivered Wednesday. Maybe it will change my opinion on Congress patterns...

This one's not mine, but it's identical.

Toothpicks or ticklers make great fishing knives. A little fish blood helps give a good patina. Fish guts wash out real easy. The blade style is also good with tomatoes, cheese, salami, bread...a good camp knife. Just don't use it to core a cabbage.

Although the pattern is now called a toothpick, it also was called a tickler. It's one of my favorites. It's about the longest thinnest slipjoint you can get. The long ones are not that common and are a good collector niche. Try and find a S&M 4" toothpick, and you'll see they dry up quick.

My least favorite pattern is any with 3 or more blades. I like to pocket carry my knives, and they just get too thick, plus all I ever really need is two blades.

well...
right now its a lockback or straight blade modern style knife that doesn't do it for me.
Just about any traditional style knife trips my trigger i.e. slippies , CS straight blades and SAKs. For pocket knives I like multi blades, at least 2 ... and 3 is about enough ( stockman) . Under 3.5" is preferable for me for work.
Oh, this is about what I don't like for a slippie.... elephant toe and sunfish.

Least favorite is the trapper...I can't just don't like the long spey styled blade :barf:

It's kinda funny, I think I am the only one on this thread that does like the Congress! ;) It's a more useful shape for my uses. You see alot of folks down here that carry a Congress. I don't really care for the Stockman, don't have a clue why, just never liked it, even though it DOES seem to be the most useful as far as all the different blade types.

It seems to have been designed specifically for getting at that last bit of peanut butter in the bottom of the jar ! ;) :D

You are not the only fellow who thinks the congress is a mighty fine pocketknife pattern, pardner. Count me in too. it is indeed one of the most useful of patterns for everyday use from whittling to opening the days mail. I particularly like in it the larger sizes, 4" or over, and which the back curve of the design offers a lot of leverage and a lot of comfort in my hands.

I agree-I love the congress pattern-esp. the 1/2 congress, for everyday use. My least favorite pattern is probably the saddlehorn trapper.

I like the Congress around 4" too. Best size for me! I ain't too fond of the Saddlehorn either. I got one of the little 6.5 Bonestage Case Saddlehorns a year or two ago, I like the way it looks, but it's too small and uncomfortable in my hand. That little "horn" is kinda aggravating. :D
