Least useful SAK tool?

I think the awl is great. I recommend that people use it instead of the blade for all those things you are tempted to use the knife for besides cutting, scraping, prying, gouging, etc. It really saves wear on the knife blade that way.

I used to shlapp the SAK for the corkscrew alone - cause the Super Tool had no such feature.

Then the guys at Leatherman came out with the new version - but it looks fragile compared to my super.

So I got a folding corkscrew - and that's it.

The SAK will go to my kid's camping. Maybe.

I agree with stjames.

My awl is one of the most used! With alot of kids I am constantly putting new holes in belts! I have sharpened the awl more than any other implement.I too, wish it had a heavier spring or locked.

I can do w/out the corkscrew. I always buy a SAK without it and a phillips instead.

DAMN! Ryan you beat me to it. Definitely the main blade is the most useless. The small blade is OK, though, since I rarely carry a small blade. I've never seen a fish scaler on one, so I couldn't say that it is the most useless.

As for the awl, I use it for something that I'm surprised no one else has mentioned: making holes in kydex/concealex to modify my various sheaths. I also use it to make new belt holes.

The hook looks like it would work pretty good for picking up a hot pot from over a camp fire, although I don't think I would trust it on TOO heavy a pot.

Least useful SAK tool?
The hook for lifting packages, never had much use for it and when I did try to use it, the weight of the package was way too much and ruined the tool, so yank that rascal out of there and add finer flat blade or phillips screw driver.

I use my awl a lot, not everyday but when I need to ream out a hole, metal or what not, it comes in handy and works well!

In defense of the humble fish scaler, I have actually used it before. Not as a scaler, but as a hook disgorger (the notched thingy on the end of the scaler). Actually rather handy when the fish partially swallows your hook. However it is too short for those Texas fish.

The only thing I haven't used on my swisschamp (mine doesn't have a hook thing, so maybe it's not a swisschamp (but, I found it in a used sofa I bought, so it was free)) is the ......um......um.......well, I guess I have used everything. Clever Swiss

Some general thoughts/criticisms on the Swiss Army pocket toolbox...

The hook: Never actually used this. Thanks, Rockspyder, for the great idea though!

The fish scaler: used this a few times, to stir liquids, or pry something, or lever something out when the screwdriver was too short, etc. Still, not my favourite tool.

The Tweezers: can't seem to really tweeze anything with these...

The Magnifying glasss: can't say I use this one much but not sure I would want to be without it either...

The File: I use it alot but I wish it were of better quality; i.e., maybe a stiffer diamond coated or carbide file...

The Main blade: barely ever used as I always have another knife on me and I prefer a knife that locks (at least if the blade is over 2.5 inches)

The Combo Tool: Great bottle opener, ok screwdriver, lousy can opener. Try it and you will know what I mean...

Of course, all these tools would be much more useful if they locked especially the screwdrivers...
