Leather Boots for the Outdoors

Went window shopping for boots a week ago Thursday. Tried on so many different pairs of work boots and all of them were either to wide for my feet or rubbed my foot the wrong way. Tried on various Hi-Tec brand trail shoes and boots and the fit was Great! I think they have gotten better over the years. Some boots might have broken in okay, the Hi-tec's were spot on. So I'll be picking up a pair of Hi-Tec Altitudes as soon as I have the money and can get back to the shop.

Irish Setter makes a pair of Canvas upper hunting boots, that will probably fit me fine. They retail for under $150 which is nice. But I'd have to drive over 60 miles to even check them out. Boots are good. Trail shoes work for some, Boots for others. :) Hope you find what works for you.

I am missing a ligament in one foot and have very wide feet. So finding the right boot that gives good stability for my ankle and a wide sole for my feet and added stability has proven difficult. I've found even "wide" widths by manufacturers like Asolo don't work because while they make the boot bigger the actual sole is not.

I have had synthetic boots but have always found them hard to clean and condition well. I was looking for a boot that could be resoled and would last for many years, have smooth leather so mud could be cleaned off easily, without a goretex or similar liner and that fit my feet.

I settled on and bought apair of Alico boots from Sierra Trading and loved them enough to buy another pair that was slightly lighter then their "heavy backpacking" model. The short is I love them. They are heavier but then my Asolo boots but they fit the criteria I was looking for much better.
