Anyone here have a leather handled Buck? I didn't even know they made them, but now I want one. I was searching for something else and couldn't believe my eyes. That configuration has to be the best of all worlds combined. :)

L.L. Bean has some leather handled Bucks. The 105 Pathfinder and 102 Woodsman. Don't have either but they do look nice.

Or are you tallking about the leather scaled 110?

The pathfinder and the woodsman. I'm thinking I'm going to have to order one or maybe both. I would think the leather would add a bit of weight to the handle for perfect balance. The grip would be non-slip for field dressing and processing game.

If you're thinking of the one's from LL Bean, they are nice if you can live with the ugly LL Bean etch on the blade.:barf: I don't remember the picture on their web site showing the etched side of the blade. I was surprised when I got these two.

I agree with you. I'm not impressed when a company puts billboards on a product they sell. A small, subtle, elegant "LL Bean" etched on the reverse side of the tang or the back of the blade have been much nicer.

They should reduce the price of those because it's advertising and companies should pay for ad space. If they want to advertise, they could make it an option with a lower price for the knife.

I'll get off my soapbox now.

There's also this one (top one) floating around out there and they show up occasionally on auction sites. A few didn't like the bone spacers in the handle, but I do. Don't they look better with no blade etch!

I have a Buck 103 Skinner with a stacked leather handle. Folks here will tell ya, I love stacked leather. Found my 103 on the bay. Hadn't seen one before, nor, have I seen one since. I'd post a picture, but, I'm not sure I
know how. Always manage to screw it up.

Took the liberty of posting it for you. Beautiful knife and sheath. By the way, did you forget me re: a couple of sheaths in natural leather?:D

very nice!

I read the reviews and did some searchs and was aware they had Bean on the side. Mine would be used so the logo would wear off. If not a little steal wool might clean it up.

Am I correct that the balance point is shifted in the leather handle version?

Is the balance point different? Not so much as to be noticable, at least that's what I feel with the 103. I weighed my stacked leather and it comes out at 5.3 oz and the black p model weighs 5.2oz. If anything I like the heavier handle so I don't have to pick up the tip and only use wrist action on the slice, or skinning motion. But, that's just me.

Nice knives, I just don't care for the LL Bean on the blade... ITE ... :thumbdn::thumbdn::thumbdn:

David, as far as I know it was. Looks very good, if not. I can find no info on if from anyone. I think it's pretty cool and certainly "one of a kind", maybe. I got it pretty cheap, too, so I don't have a clue what the story is.

It was new, never sharpened, and has a 1987 date stamp. I got it for $29, without a sheath. I still think it was a steal. JR
