Just bought my hiking buddy a camillus usaf pilot knife for x-mas...(it's his first knife that doesn't say stainless taiwan on it....I really like the leather handle... was wondering if I could leather handle a mora blank.....anyone know if this could be done...and where to get leather rings???

Jantz Supply sells them. . . 1.99 for a package of 8. . .

You could just make your own. . . I don't know if you have a Tandy Leather store near you, but you can find great deals in their scrap bin if you do.

The only trouble I see is figuring out how to secure a butt-cap to the end of the tang. . . Mora tangs are designed to be glued into a hole in a carved handle. I'm sure you could come up with a way to do it, it'll just take a bit of ingenuity.

Edit: Was just looking at the blades on Ragweed Forge and there are quite a few more there than I thought that have long enough tangs to go all the way through the handle and be secured with a nut threaded onto the end. . . Ragnar even sells the pommels and nuts. I'd forgotten about the other styles of knives aside from the Moras.

Yep. Very doable. GREAT to see you constructing your own knife too RR!!!!

I love when someone transitions from a user/collector to a tinkerer.

Yeah, your screwed now.

Production knives just don't cut it once you start doing your own.

I really only have a handful of production knives in my collection that are untouched.

I still love my Bark Rivers. But Bruce is right. Once you've made your own cutting tool you'll want to use it. It gets addictive.

I know somebody who makes great stacked leather handles who could give you some tips. Pic of a khukuri he did up that way that came out excellent HERE
and a pukko he did up with a really nice leather handle HERE I think they look great!
