Leather jackets

How is this thread still a thing? 🤣

I still have the SchottNYC jacket I bought way back in 09.

Sadly I can't wear it anymore since I lost a lot of weight and it looks absolutely ridiculous on me, now.

I am actually in the process of working to have my old Taylor's leatherwear Chicago PD jacket sent in to bedo's leatherwork to have Steve put some patches on it.
The jacket was surplussed out in unissued condition ,but having been made specifically for the CMPD it did have a pair of shoulder patches which were removed before hand.
The plan is to have a patch of leather in a nicely contrasting lighter brown color sewn over those spots on the shoulders, and couple embroidered patches I ordered sewn over that.
Plus I've got a patch I want placed where the nametag holder ( to be removed ) is.

At least that's the current plan anyways, I'm waiting for my patches to arrive so I can send the jacket for him to look over and come up with a plan / price.

Bedo is a legend.

Six years in I'm still happy with my STS Ranchwear rifleman jacket. Good thick full grain leather quality zippers and if that's your thing a CC pocket good for a medium frame wheel gun or a smaller auto.
The jacket has held up well with very little upkeep.

I got a Cooper G-2 ( G-1 except with a leather collar instead of fleece) goatskin jacket about 30 - 35 years ago and wore it until the lining was tearing up, sent it to US Wings and git it re-lined than wore it some more. Unfortunately about 7 years or so ago it started shrinking around the middle for some reason. Oh well, one of my grandsons may wear it some day.

My leather jacket I've had for a long time. What I like most about it are the perforated design sections.

I'm currently waiting on my old Taylor's Chicago PD issue issue jacket to come back from Bedo's Leatherworks.
It's been there a little over 3 weeks now getting some custom patchwork done, and he should be done with the work any day now.
once it gets back to me though I'll probably only get a few days where I can wear it until late October , because spring weather is rolling in.

Sounds like you're looking for a jacket that develops a story over time—completely understand that! Cowhide is typically your best option for durability, and steerhide or horsehide can be even more durable if you find one in your budget. You may also want to look out for second-hand military surplus or biker jackets—they're made to last and often already broken in with personality.

Also, if you ever find yourself wanting to customize your equipment to make it that much more yours, embroidered leather patches are an awesome addition—they age with the jacket and can be a good representation of who you are or what you like. I've seen some incredible work from The Embroider if you ever want to do something custom down the line.

I got a great used, German Motorcycle Police jacket from a popular shooting supply place. A 5 pocket bomber type. Big reflective POLIZEI on the back came off pretty easily with a hair dryer and tweezers.
Only drawback is the left hand euro zipper.
For a C-Note it was worth a chance.

My cousin bought one of those from Sportsmans guide.
SPG is where I bought my awesome Taylor's leatherwear CMPD surplus jacket.
I don't think the German jackets ( made by Hein Gericke I think ) are quite as stout of a jacket, but they are well worth the money.
I had contemplated getting one, but spent the $250 on my jacket because I didn't know that the POLIZIE lettering on back could be removed.
