Leather like you've never seen before!

What would the price difference be?

If a blade guard was approx. 1/3 the price of a regular sheath, I'd be all over it.

The blade covers I make are less expensive, but not THAT less expensive.

Whiskey, those look nice! Not a new idea per say, but nice none the less. :)

This is a thread to share an idea/project with the group... Conversations over prices should be taken to private comms, please. :)

I think there is a way to discuss the overall project, including pricing, w/o conducting an actual transaction. I also think this would make the discussion more complete.

Having said that, I will defer the final decision to Jaxx and respect his wishes since he is taking care of us here.

BTW, nice blade guards. I love the idea and can see where this is a great product. I think it would work even better if made to fit several different models since everyone here only keeps a particular knife for 3.2 days on average.:(:D

Thanks for the compliment!

I've never heard of or seen one of these before and nobody else who commented has either. In any case, it's a way for people to save a bunch of money and still have some cool leather!

3.2 days? I thought it was closer to a week! LOL

Thanks for the comments! If they were made to fit "several" models, it would fall off, look ugly, might as well stick to cardboard in that case. Custom fitted leather is hard to beat IMO.

:D

First things first - I commented in this thread and I did not say I had not seen them before. It appears to be a sheath without a belt loop and perhaps no retention and yes they have been made before, like Leatherman said.

I am not out to steal anybody's thunder, but let's not claim we've reinvented the wheel. Here are some I've made in the past. I am not taking orders for sheaths these days, please don't ask. I'm illustrating that a belt loop -less sheath is not a new invention.

Is a pocket sheath a blade guard? If so that flavor too has been made aplenty.

Mike:

LOL..... that was a funny post.

I am not out to reinvent the wheel, I think there are plenty wheels out there. Also, half of the sheaths you posted actually do have belt loops!

Stay calm my friend!

;)

Your very welcome. :)

My statement was not a jab at you, promise. Just trying to save you some trouble down the line.

Simple blade covers have been around for quite some time, the Japanese call them shirasya- a simple scabbard to protect the blade while in transit to the "handle and scabbard" maker.

add a frog and you have a multi purpose rig! :D

No, not a real f r o g :p a "sheath frog" that the sheath slides into.

Sam Browne Stud. NO, not "American Gigolo" stud, a protrusion that assists the sheath to stay in place on a sash or frog (again, not an amphibian)

Exactly ! lol

mm, Love the artwork on that zilla sheath, awesome touch

WR, keep up the nice looking work.

I think it's a great idea. It would be perfect protection for the long blade I carry in my car under the seat. That way I wouldn't have to worry about passengers in the back seat stabbing themselves in the foot. :D

We are Fortunate! There is soo much talent here in this forum it's incredible. First, Last, whatever - just make it as good as the knife it will hold and it will be all good!

Thanks again WR for the post and the PM  I like to support all the guys here and so do many others - it's all good

However, most of what I have read, it is highly recommended storing a knife in the safe outside of the sheath - especially when it's leather. Same holds true for what I have read about guns... just sayin ....

A stud with a decent edge at the top corner to catch the inside edge of a pocket would make them a 'pocket blade guard' too ;-)

I've taken to carrying some of my small fixed blades in my pocket and a "blade guard" has a slightly lower profile than the full sheath. I think they look great and for me would be functional for carry in situations where I'm just out walking the dogs etc. as long as they are not too thin. Thanks for the photos.

I agree 150%...... better safe than sorry when it comes to storing steel in anything!

:)

Guys, thanks for all the comments and feedback! It's much appreciated!

These are mine by the way....sorry I just noticed this thread.

WR does some very nice work! Fit was perfect on everything I got from him(4 of my bus se's are protected by his work)and to me the price was great.

The guards to me are great for blades you don't need to carry on you.

Thanks again WR!

The idea of a not-really-sheath on a knife that never gets used seems doubly silly to me.

Nice looking leather work, though; I do appreciate the craftsmanship.
