Superglue isn't 100% waterproof, be careful there :)

Other than that, alcohol and acetone are great- rawhide woould probably work *really* well and you can use acetone or hot water (or maybe alcholol) to get it flat and even.

I've never tried this, and I might have to, but I think you'd be best off starting with layered 1-2 ounce or the thinnest splits you can get. I'm just not sure you'll ever get complete resin penetration in 8 ounce. I 'boiled' a piece in wax or a long time once and still had "raw" leather in the middle.

edit- it might be fun to take all the raggedy end scraps you can find and get a burl pattern!
 
Reviving an old thread - any more recent examples?

Also, I heard that the Ancient Greeks used leather "micarta" to reinforce their body armor. Specifically, the Spartans.

I think this was from a documentary I watched on the real "300" (which was more like 4,000 soldiers.
 
Come on St33L, This is a nine year old thread. The OP has been gone for many years. You are adding no new information, and are unlikely to get a response. This is exactly why we discourage necroposting.
