leather question

So I got some leather from Tandy, only problem is when my wife ordered it she got 6oz instead of 8oz. It seems pretty thin, but I have found some websites of guys who claim it tools well.
I am also concerned about it holding shape. While it should form up around the knife well would it hold that shape?

6 oz is perfect for a 6"-8" blade or smaller. It will definitely hold shape when wet formed and is fine for tooling. I have both 6oz and 8oz for varying size sheaths...

I use 6oz. leather quite a bit for smaller knives. Usually it's wet sewn around a wooden liner for scandies, but occasionally I'll use it for other sheaths.

All of these are 6oz. The pocket sheath does have a welt made from an 8oz. scrap though.
