what does everybody do with their scraps from sheath making ? I use to give some to my dogs but that stopped when I found them eating a new hide . Spoiled brats they are .

Raymond Richard posted a sheath he pieced together with scraps a while back and it looked really good. Almost like shingles or big scales, IIRC. Was it the sheath for Jumbo? Somebody chime in if they remember better.

I practice tooling some on scraps. Another thing I do is save them up and use them for stacked handles. Anything to small for those tasks gets tossed.

I try to keep the leather away from my dogs:)

As off the subject as this is, raw hides are actually VERY BAD for dogs much like most of everything else people give to them thinking it's "harmless"

I would think that some tasteful design in an kydex and leather sheath could be a good combo?

I save my small scrap pieces to us as clamp pads when securing a blade or guard ( or anything else I don't want marred) in a vice.

They accumulate in the drawer with time, some find use in odd jobs, some go into a stacked leather washer handle, and others just sit and wait and accumulate.

any one ever try grinding them up and making some leather scrap micarta handle slabs ?

Here's the picture of the knife and sheath. The sheath was made with 50% scrap leather. It took at least 4 times as long for me to make. I did a couple this way. Now that I have done them there is no more desire to do others.

Using the scraps to make stacked leather handles like Steelshaper suggested is probably one of the best things to do with them.

I Stamp my Logo on them. Cut a shape, punch a hole and stain them. Add a key rings to them. Make a large bole full of them and give them away as free bees to kids at a knife show.

Very cool idea must be time consuming.

Done keychains also. You do not even have to dye the leather, it get patina'ed real nice after a while.
