Does anyone have one for their Gunting? Typically I'm more of a Kydex and Concealex fan but lately I've had a craving for leather.

Does anyone have one for their Gunting or know of anyone who currently makes one ready for shipping?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Bok,
There is a custom sheath maker who deals only in leather. I can't find his email w/ pictures of gunting holster. I will continue to search. Try this post in the custom forum. He does some really beautiful work for several quality knives. The only draw back at the time was the clip had to be removed. I am sure you probably use the spoon for changing grips. Hey why not just carry 2 guntings one with the clip and one without :D Life is great!

Thanks guys,

I've seen a few of those sites. I was hoping for somethng that wouldn't have to be custom made seeing as I'm a little impatient and am reluctant to send my G away again.

Last time I did do it took just about 2 months to get back.

cpk - if you can find pics of that of leather G holster that would be GREAT!

I have a Gunting and plenty of leather, so I suppose I could make a sheath for you. But I have no clue what shape/design you'd like. If you could email me a sketch or two, a pic of a sheath you like, or maybe describe what it should look like, I'll give it a shot.

Samples of my work... :)

Wes,
I think Gary Graley is the man when it comes to leather folder sheaths...

Thanks Steve, and as luck would have it, I happen to have formed the top section for a gunting, it turned out the fellow wanted to wear his on the other side, so I have a right handed top section that can be made to go as a horizontal carry or I could make it into vertical or canted as well, normally on the vertical or canted I wrap the leather around the forward part of the sheath, this one would have stitching along both sides of the knife, BUT since I don't have the gunting anylong, who ever would like to have a sheath made would need to work the knife into the sheath, it would be handier to have the knife for the final fitup but this one should snap into the sheath very secure and yes...no clip on the knife with this top section...

As you can see from this scan, this is how the sheath starts out, I make the top section, then I emboss if needed and then complete the sheath, the very top is lighter from the back because of the scanner light source...

That sheath looks nice... :)

If I may ask, what is the leather thickness on that sheath? Up to now I used 4-5 oz leather for folders and 7-8 oz for bigger fixed blades, mainly because tooling and stamps don't show too well on thinner leathers.

Thanks in Advance! :)

Thanks Vess, of course that's just the beginnings, and I use 6/7 oz leather which makes it a chore to shape it as tight as I do, a lot of time spent on that but it makes the retention much better and looks nice as well.
I stay away from the fixed blade world...just focusing on folders and starting back into it this month, took a short break, new position at my regular work...ugghhh

BOK! Better let me know if you want Gary's sheath finished up or I'll have to snag it for myself! :)

Gary does great work! I'm happy as a clam with my small Sebbie sheath!

Cheers!

Thanks all for the replies. I would snap this sheath up in a second, however I do need a sheath that will accomodate the clip. The Gunting just doesn't rotate as well without it.

This ones all your Burton!

Dang! I molded the sheath without a clip already! :)

Okay, I'll start another one then. This is actually fun. I never did moulding before...

So, it's for a right-handed Gunting, with clip, vertical carry, for a 1 1/2" - 2" belt, and what color? (can do black, brown and antique finish)

Gary Grayley is the man. He makes imho the best looking leather folder sheaths I have seen. Check out his website! There is alot of great sheaths there. Sorry I couldn't find my pictures. I was going to have him make something for me but instead I bought some Gunting trainers:) You know how us Guntalholics are;) So many knives so little money!

Gary's sheaths are the best, hands down. Check out his website for some awesome pics of different sheaths for folders (and see my canted S2K sheath ;) ). You know, if you wanted a G2 sheat you could lose the clip and dremel a divot in that side's G-10 as well. Then you could spin it the same and have the baddest sheath on the block.

Vess,
Nice!! I'm one of Bram's people, really like it,as a friend of mine would say,"OUTSTANDING"!!Only question, how would it hold up too continued drawing, would it become too loose ??Unknown?? would like to put one thru it's test! How much!!

I don't think the sheaths will loosen up very much after time. After repeatedly shoving the Gunting in and out, the inside angles of the sheath changed a bit, but the knife is still hard to pull out. Maybe I moulded the knife silouette too closely, or made the leather too hard. Right now the front of the sheath has a feel of Kydex. Is that even normal? :) The knife literally snaps in and locks into place. You can hear it "click" in. But getting the knife out right now results in a self-inflicted wedgie...

And I have no clue what a sheath for a folder costs. I never bought one or made one before... Email me with suggestions, and since this is a first try for me, I'm not looking for profit... :)

Vess, those are real nice and yep they feel like kydex when finished but not the plastic feel to them, and from stretching the leather around the knife, the leather has a lot of the looseness taken out so it shouldn't stretch too much with use.

Dandy setup there!

Glad to know that the stiffness is normal. I was kinda worried I made something freakish... :)

Vess, one thing you wanna watch on something as contoury as this folder, don't follow the stitching to the contours, shape the leather to it will be a tight fitting sheath but stitch more or less along side, leaving some space for the leather to spring apart when you pull the knife out, otherwise it'll be way too tight a fit and hard to remove. Here is what the lefty horizontal looked like, when that right handed one above was halted in mid stride, you'll notice I brought the leather up a little higher on to the spike portion, for a little more coverage, but either would work well.

Those you made look excellent, nice finish and good stitching, like the back side, is that a snap on there?
