A little while ago i was on my quest for a good leather utility belt pouch to carry a few things which would accompany my bark river golok with mikro canadian II piggy backed onto a baldric setup from sharpshooter.

after some time searching and with the help of some forumites, i stumbled across leather smith designs. they are a company based out of Nova Scotia and specialize in hand crafted leather work of all sorts. They make guitar straps, coin purses, knife sheaths as well as a slew of other amazing things.

After browsing around their website i came across what i believed to be the perfect leather utility belt pouch.

this is the medium leather belt pouch offered by Leather Smith Designs. The specs from the website are:

# Black or brown leather

# Two sturdy belt loops

# Approximately 5 1/2 inches wide X 3 1/2 inches high X 1 inch deep

there is also the option to get the pouch personalized with lettering for only an additional 7 bux canadian.

the total cost of the pouch was $28.98 and i figured what the heck it was worth it. Boy was i not disappointed.

after placing my order and selecting the shipping method (i paid a little extra to get it express post), i received 3 very professional emails. i received one immediately after ordering stating that my order has been received, another one later stating that my order has been processed and was now queued and the last one saying that it was now in the process of being made.

the total time between placing my order, having it made and shipped was not even a week. I placed my order on the 9th of January and it made it here today on the 15th.

when i opened the well packaged parcel i was pleasantly surprised at what was held instore.

here are some pics:

so far i've thrown in a large zip loc bag, some para-cord, my swiss army one hand trekker, fire steel, a signal mirror, and a bic lighter. this kit is to supplement my kit which i have in my pack and these are items which i will reach for first and most frequently before the things i pull out of my pack. i plan to make a psk out of two altoids tins as it fits very nicely into the pouch and will post more pics later.

i highly recommend getting some leather from these folks. www.leathersmithdesigns.com

looks like some nice leather working!

i look forward to seeing how you pack it.

That's great man, looks excellent. Certainly a good 'woodlore' pouch. Nice stitching, good size, and the price is certainly right. Sounds like you filled it with the proper stuff too. :D

thanks dude, i was essentially looking for an alternative to the ray mears woodlore pouch which was around a hundred bux.

i plan to put in a kit later once i have the time but for now its holding the essentials.

Cheers

I hear you on the cost problem. Luckily there's no sense in spending the money with such good leather workers around.

I think you're a lot better off doing what you're doing and keeping a few often used essentials in your kit, that's what a real 'survival kit' ought to be. Too much stuff or too many little 'just in case' items will quickly turn it into dead-weight on your hips.

that looks like a pretty neat pouch  it seems like it would be alot easier to keep the contents of your pockets in one of those, so you dont have to unglove your hand and then try to find what you need in your pocket. i got somthing similar headed my way from mtnfolk mike.

Nice looking pouch! thanks for the link, i think i just the people to make me some leather knife sheaths, and to order some hides!

basically that was the idea, i wanted access to my stuff without having to dig into my pockets.

forgot to mention i had some cotton balls in there as well.

been walkin around the house with it all day, feels great on the belt and fairly stylish i might add :)

thanks for the replies guys.

Okay, I am admittedly weird, but isn't that what a sporran is for?

Anybody know what weight leather would be appropriate for a project like that? It looks real nice and the price is right. Cool find!

thanks dude, not quite sure what weight the leather is but you could try giving them an email. there are plenty of makers here on the forum who are leather benders. you should check out the sheaths and such section.

Get 3-4 oz tooling leather if you can.... its good because you can wetform it to things and its stiff enough to protect.

jca21.....

Sweet pouch, buddy.

If you are aggro on the leather forming like I get sometimes 5-6 will work, but in general I think the 3-4 os best for smaller projects like that. Koyote Girl does her waterforming on sheaths all the way up to 11 ounce, but at that level she's doing handstands to get enough weight on the bone folder :D

That's spectacular! I love traditional pouches like that! It looks like you might be able to carry it EDC and be comfortable; how do you think it would work out?
