I want a new leather wallet. I keep looking at Saddleback but there's just something I'm not crazy about looks wise, I don't know. What else is comparable to them in quality?

I was in your EXACT same predicament about this time last year. I wasn't sure I'd like the style of Saddleback wallets. Boyyyy was I wrong. I got the small bifold in dark coffee brown and it is absolutely outstanding!

I liked it so much, two of my best friends now have Saddleback wallets too

check out Bosca Wallets.
Very nice.
Not as nice as Saddleback though.

You might elaborate more on that "looks wise" thing, because I'm not sure what else you could do with leather that would make it look better.

Maybe you need something a bit more exotic like Stingray or Sharkskin?

I guess I'm just envisioning it being a very stiff hunk of leather, but I know it breaks in well and all that. I was also worried about going from a trifold to a bifold and just size in general, I'm not sure how large all three sizes are.

I have a Saddleback billfold in tobacco. I don't find it to be any more stiff than any other cheap wallet I've had. Once you put money and stiff plastic cards in it the flexibility of the wallet becomes kind of irrelevant anyway imo.

I much prefer a billfold to a trifold as it folds the bills less and spreads the thickness out more for me. I have a medium size one and it fits cards and bills perfect without much extra material. Again, about the same size as any other cheap wallet I've had.

That's a valid concern. The outside isn't that stiff IMO, but I've broken a few cards with it, and I did make sure to stuff about 3-4 cards in each slot before using it.

Still, the full grain leather plus pigskin combo is very hard to beat. As far as size, the bi-fold is just as big as any other cheapo wallet.

It's just a shame that even heavy conditioners on the full grain leather won't protect it from my acid sweat.

Kind of makes me wonder if I'm a descendant of one of these:

Thanks for the info and suggestions. After watching the video on their site it looks better to me, thinking about the medium in Dark Coffee Brown.

You could also take a look at filson or Ghurka. I have a saddleback and love it, also have a filson and it is wonderful as well, the leather is thinner on the filson.

Call me crazy but I got a plain old black bi-fold wallet from wal mart for $7 and its held up great so far. Its not designer or anything but it says its genuine leather and the durability has been perfectly good in my use.

I've always had genuine leather wallets but the saddleback med bifold in tobacco takes the cake.
The stack of my old wallets (which are all still in decent condition) in a drawer has proved this to be true.
I also had the dark coffee med bifold from saddleback but it felt much different. Still nice. But different.

Tobacco will have a more rough/unfinished feel and dark coffee brown will look/feel more similar to a nicer dressy leather. They're both excellent, just different finishes.

I tried all 3 sizes of the Saddleback bifold, ended up selling the small and large, medium is the perfect size for me. The new ones are a little thinner than the older models, they are soft and not too bulky for me, but they are a little thicker than the really thin leather a lot of makers use. I love the medium so much, I bought a second one as a back up (not that I'll probably ever need it!). I also recently bought a couple of there belts, by far the best belts I've ever owned.

I use a saddleback Iphone case for a wallet. It fits 3-4 cards, 10-12 bills, and a bifold sleeve that I keep my ID and my concealed carry in. also has a hole for pushing the stuff out . It works perfect, is cheap, retains everything well, lays flat and looks good.

If interested in a front pocket wallet look at Ainste Evan Wallet. Great products!!

I would either buy a Heartman or a Bosca leather wallet. The Heartman I had lasted over 14 years it was made with Amercan Belting leather. Heartman did not have a wallet style I wanted so I replaced the Heartman with a Bosca. Look on eBay. That is the best place to get a good price.
Good luck.

I took my own advice and just bought a Tanner Goods utility bifold in natural finish. My old wallet has had enough, tyvek and duct tape can only hold up for so long.

I have the Saddleback large bifold in tobacco and it is a perfect fit in my jeans and cargo pants, completely filling the (rear) pocket. After about a year of use, the "brushed" finish is nicely polished smooth. Highly recommended.
