I have been looking on line for a good source for leather to do some lanyards and things. I haven't been too successful in my search. Where do you guys find "good quality" leather for sheaths and such? Most of the leather strips I find locally, you can snap in two with no effort and it is dry and stiff. Just curious. Thanks.

Tandy leather comes to mind. I think they supply leather both in Canada and the USA. Quick delivery, and good prices. They carry all sorts of leather supplies and accessories.

I get all of my leather, whether it's for knives or for work (welding), at tandy. You should make sure to get some leather conditioner/oil if you live in a really dry climate. Some of the local stuff you find might be okay if you oil and work it for a bit.

Great thanks for the info. I have heard of them. I'll go take a look now. Appreciate it!!

I have a new Cooper knife with leather handle, and the leather washers are very slightly loose. I s there any way I can tighten them? The pommel nut has been ground flush with the pommel, so I cant do it mechanically

I second the motion on Brettunsvillage. Great people!

You can also try www.springfieldleather.com. They have decent sales.

http://www.foxvalleyleather.com/ is an interesting choice. They don't list vegetable tanned leathers on the site, but if you download their catalog, they've got a wider selection. The prices are pretty good, even compared to some of the wholesale vendors I use.

Best,
Jim

If you have a TSC or Theisens near you go to the saddle and horse supplies. They have some leather repair straps that work great.

Wickett & Craig - the best of the best and after 46 years of leather work it is just about the only leather I will use any more: www.wickett-craig.com

You can also get it from:

buying from Mid-Continent may save shipping, but also gives you "one stop shopping" since they carry everything else you will need.........

I've bought from Siegel of Ca. And I get good deals from them with free shipping. But you gotta stay on top of them. I've had to call more than once on EVERY order.

I did so at Chuck Burrows suggestion and was really satisfied with their service and prices. This stuff is exceptionally good quality leather. Talk to Linda.

Hope this helps!
