Here is my design, in .07” AEB-L at 63 HRC, a hybrid of designs by other makers released to the public domain on our beloved bladeforums. I have a number of these I will make, but before I start the first one, I’d like to ask ( and please feel free to volunteer any advice you’d like to offer that I may not know to ask for):
Definitely both sides on the bevel and .07 is way too thick. Paul Long and I decided on .040 from our experience a long time ago and that works really well. AEB-L at 63 is just about perfect for roundknife use. I literally used one of mine for several hours of cutting today and only touched it up on the buffer once in all that cutting and this was heavy 10/12 oz leather! I too am very fond of a non symmetrical roundknife.
Stand off to the side while grinding these guys. They WILL try to jump off the grinder and bite you!
Recently I've decided to buy myself a round knife for leather working. I did some Google searches and found quite a few different threads on round knifes - seems everyone has their opinion on what constitutes a good one.
