Leatherface' JKM sheath

Well that is what I was leaving out. Thanks Yvsa. Today I have hollowed out a wooden scabbard (curly maple) and I'm shaping it up now. It'll be pinned with the brass shank of 2-56 machine screws. We use those a lot at work. I'll make a frog that'll ride against a ridge left in the top panel. Its glued up now. I'll get a swivel knife for the decorations. Any additional carving tips would be greatly appreciated. :D

Thanks again Yvsa. I remembered you talking about the brown paper. Would paper grocery bags work too?

Thanks Yangdu...I am running out of small knives to make sheaths for..hint hint nudge nudge..!:D

YVsa,
I am working on a design right now that is similar to the one you posted earlier in the thread...Not sure how it will come out but I gotta try it...Will try and get it done this week...Those pesky customer's of mine just wont wait for there stuff!!!!grrr impatience!;)

BTW..

Can someone post a pic of a JKM and a YCS Karda side by side from a couple of different angles?? I got me an idea for a different sheath and I wanna know if I can use it for both with little design change..<~~~LAZY!!

Quick and dirty pic.

Leatherface, if you you are planning on making "stock" sheaths for HI knives, I'm not sure how well they'll fit. There are sometimes significant variances in size and shape from one knife to another. Just a thought.

Hope this pic helps!

Steve

Steve's right, the two I have are alot different. The scabbards will interchange but they dont have the same fit. FYI

Thanks Steve and sogguy

Yea I pretty much figured you couldnt use a "one size fitsall" approach...Would be nice though..

What I was talking about is a "pattern" design that I can use for JKM's and the smallish YCS Karda's without having to reinvent the wheel...

I am sure that Steve noticed that the sheath was a bit overbuilt...This was done intentionally to give it room for slightly larger (longer) JKM's than the one that I have...that keeps the cost down(pencil in hand add's $$$)...err if I ever figure out what to charge that is:D

Right now I just recieved my Neem handled Kerambit...I LOVE this thing...however again, I hate the sheath...Wanna guess what I am going to be doing tonite??:D

Dave, I hope you post some pics of the knife and sheath. I have never seen a Neem kerambit, and the sheaths on mine or OK, but do not hold the knife as well as I would like.

I know Steve posted pics of the kumar karda, and those are pretty uniform (The sher ones are bigger and fatter handles while Kumar's are more slender as are Amtraks old ones), but the YCS kardas you asked about vary quite a bit more.

Regards,

Norm
