Leatherman ARC vs Wave alpha.

I have the Wave+ (about 5 years now) and thinking about the Wave Alpha (love the orange), but wanted to hear your thoughts after you had it for about a month now.
It’s a good tool. I used to carry a Wave a loooong time ago. This is definitely a nicer Wave. I’ve enjoyed carrying it over the month. Has the same “thing” for me that Wave did in the past - namely I use the internal tools more than the pliers, and opening it up to get to the tools is less efficient than having all the tools on the outside (like the Spirit I left the original Wave for).

Long story short, an Arc arrived yesterday, and I think I’m going to like it a bit more in practice.

Enablers, I tell ya! 😉

Quiet, ShaiHulud and Sharpbits have experience and knowledge I respect.

I needed a toolbox during a moment during a shift. A lot of running back and forth to a shop.

I thought about a Leatherman or SAK.

I've ordered an ARC.

Its better than nothing, but not as good as a toolbox full of dedicated tools. However carrying a toolbox everywhere you go is highly impractical. I think the arc is the way to go, but doesnt hurt to have a sak as well with you somewhere

I've been carrying my Leatherman Supertool 300M for years now. I just love it. That said, I have been wanting an ARK for a while now, is it that much better?

I’ve been liking the Arc a lot. Wave Alpha’s spending a lot of time at home. 😀

Better is a very relative word. The ARC is lighter and it's much easier to open the tools. The individual tools are all available without opening the whole thing. Blade steel is better as well. However the ST300 is heavier duty and less expensive which might make it a better fit for many users. The ST300 also has a longer phillips head driver which some people need. On the ARC you will need the extension for some jobs as the ARC only has the bit holder and a single flat driver.

The super tool 300 is an improvement on the rebar. I had the rebar and st300 together and they are a powerhouse duo because of the closed construction they can handle recklessness and dropping better than the arc. But it takes longer to open up the tools as they are all enclosed into the handle. So if you don't need to balisong flip out the pliers or need quick access to tools, you may want to stick with the st300. People are cheesing for anything super steel so you'll never run out of people recommending the arc for the magnacut knife blade alone, and leatherman has been using 420HC for a long time so they got it down to a science. Try rhe arc so you can satisfy your curiosity but always keep the st300 or rebar handy.
