Leatherman Builds A New Multi-Tool Just for Kids

I like the idea of being able to add the blade. That could be added as a reward for demonstrating safe handling of tools. I don't think there's a lot of practical utility in adding the blade, it's more about having a way to start the conversation about safety and having the kid graduate to owning a blade of his own.

No kids of my own, but I've already given Leathermen, (Leathermans?) to nephews. I actually like the concept behind this, but the removable blade vs. training/rearing of a child has me a little perplexed. I'd actually cut the age range in half for this. Removable blade means 4-6 year old age range.

It's about time someone has truly made an effort for the youngsters to learn knife skills. The plus is that such a great company has decided to step-up. Any word on country of manufacture?

Totally agree. Turn off the video games (sometimes) and head outdoors!

I like the idea. The removable knife might be nice for schools/commercial air travel and/or employers who forbid blades.

My kids got Micras, which they seem to use quite often. Perhaps a Micra Jr edition with a similar removable/exchangable blade would make more sense.

The price looks a bit steep to me, however.

I like the idea of getting kids interested in tools, and self reliance. The removable blade is unnecessary, in my opinion, but if that feature helps convince a few more parents to get one for their kids, then I'm all for it.

It would help people like me looking for a multitool to carry in high school.
