Leatherman c33 crater edge-holding

Here's a pic of my c33, I happened to be purchasing a bunch of tools for work at the local hardware store and saw this knife hanging on the wall next to a set of calipers I needed so I grabbed it on a whim(after all I hadn't bought a knife in at least a couple of weeks:D). I took it home and immediately put it to work breaking down a large amount of heavy cardboard that had accumulated in the garage over the winter. First of all I was surprised at how comfortable it remained under heavy use, it just didn't seem like it would be easy on the hand the way it felt coming out of the package. No hot-spots or major irritation after about 80-100 long hard cuts. I really leaned into this job, some of the pieces I had to cut were 4 feet long 3 layer cardboard. In fact I worked it so hard the blade was hot to the touch after around 20 minutes. The really astonishing thing was the incredible edge-holding of the 420hc steel. I really did not expect anything from this knife other than something to play with on a Saturday afternoon. When the job was done the blade would no longer pop hairs off the forearm but would still cleanly slice newspaper. I even used it to corral and then dispatch a Black Widow spider that leaped menacingly (okay, crawled) from one of the boxes. So two surprises that day; one a knife that I bought as a one-day beater is now my EDC and two, I encountered a Black Widow spider in my garage (in Canada-who knew?). Oh yeah, the bottle opener works well too, on a nice imported beer after all that work.

I've had my eye on that knife and it's variations. The price is good for the base model, even at a place like R.E.I. think I may just have to pick one up. Is it pretty light overall? Thought it might make a good back pack knife that if I lost would be out a bunch of money.

Thanks for the input

I have the Crater C33 too. What also surprised me was that the blade doesn't have blade play in any direction. The knife has a comfortable handle, is light and great for EDC. I paid 20 euros for it and for that price, I think Leatherman made a great knife.

Can't give you the weight in ounces or grams but it is very light, about like an Opinel #7 maybe.

Thanks. I love my leatherman Skeletool CX, has been holding up really well, but it's a bit heaving to hang from a back pack strap. Looks like the basic C33 is only 2.36 oz and can had around here for under 20 dollars

I just got the basic c33 in the mail today. My scale says 2.545 oz. Still incredibly light and surprisingly comfortable (I have smallish hands so judge for yourself). Also a nice size for a utility blade - short enough to not be cumbersome with small tasks, but long enough to get decent leverage cutting straps and such.

EDIT: Sorry to bump an old thread, I didn't check the date before I posted
