After having my Charge for over 1 Month, the one thing that is starting to stand out is the 154CM Blade. It is scary Sharp and cuts like madd!!! I have been using Leatherman products for years and I must say that the Blade is a big improvement over the other stainless ones.

I get such a kick out of the replys, this thread was about the Charge's 154CM Blade and the replys were talking about SAKs. I love them too! Just wanted to talk about this great blade on a multi tool.

My blade from LM wasn't all that sharp. I needed to add an edge to it. The grind was inconsistent from tip to base with it sharper in the middle but pretty dull at the tip.

We will see how it holds up, but so far I like my Swisstool better.

When I got my Charge the 154CM was not shaving sharp, I worked it for just a minute on an oil stone and BAM!!! Super Sharp! SCary!!! Sharp!!! I have cut alot of 550 Cord and other things with it and it just cuts so damn good. It is far better than the old stainless blades. Time will tell but I said it before and I will say it again, the Charge will set records for sales when it is all said and done.

When I had my Leatherman Charge it wasn't that sharp out of the box either... my SwissTool was much sharper. My LM Charge had alot of problems like the ruler not being hooked to the handle correctly and the wire cutters didn't close all the way (you could actually see through the bottom of them when the pliers were closed) and the tools clumped which was one of the things adveritsed that it wasn't supposed to do. I think I got one of those defect models that everyone seems to be talking about..... I should have sent it in and got a new one to see if the kinks were worked out. If I had gotten one that was high quality and didn't have all those problems I probably would still have it and be using it as my EDC.

I just got through cutting some cords with my 154CM Blade on the Charge, Man this is one Heck of a Blade on a Multi tool. I agree with those that there are problems with some of the tools. I have two Charges and had to take one back and get it replaced beause the scales were put on wrong. Leatherman needs to fix their QC Process., But if you luck up and get a good Charge you won't be disappointed.

I never expect a blade to be sharp out of the box.. why would anyone?
(Especially LM and SAK, forget it, I refuse to carry them until I've sharpened them adequately. I even open the package when it is a gift and sharpen...)
Sharp out of the box means very little. How sharp they stay is another matter.
BTW I carry a SAK _and_ another multi-tool _and_ usually a small folder.

Why is that ?? !!

Also the serrated blade thumbhole seems to have the edges of the hole rounded down as well so its difficult to get a good grip on it to open the blade ??

Because you should be able to use a tool directly out of the package.

still going strong with mine after two months as well!

Ive only had my Charge for a couple of weeks but had to send the first one back :( as the pliers had way too much play in them straight out of the box far more than my supertool that has had loads of heavy use ,also one of the unlocking buttons on the handles stuck out further than the one on the other side and made a click when you pressed it .The replacement is fine and the pliers are very tight (maybe a little too tight but that should change after some use ) .Im going to buy a Lansky sharpener to get the best out of the blade ,i havnt had to sharpen the 154cm blade on the replacement tool as i can shave hair with it already but the first one i got wasnt very sharp and i did have some trouble sharpening it on an oil stone , it took ages and i was having trouble keeping the angle (hence the need for a lansky )which doesnt seem to be a problem on my sak and supertool .What kind of packaging did yours come in ? mine was in a metal tin which im sure will come in usefull but havnt quite thought what yet for.

I totally agree. I think it shows that the company you purchased the tool from will take the time to make sure you're happy with their product.

Maybe, but I've given up on that. The only company in my experience that is sharp enough out of the box is spyderco, and I even touch up those when I get a chance.

You simply cannot produce a perfect edge without an individual by-hand touch for each tool, which is not going to happen often in production.

I've never had an acceptably sharp multi-tool out of the box, and I own several LMs, SAKs, and a SOG.
