Leatherman Charge 154CM Blade!

I bought my charge a few months ago. I bought it from bass pro shops for two reasons. The first reason being that they were one of the first retailers I could find that carried it and number 2 they offered a special edition in real tree camo which I thought was really cool.

I was turned onto leatherman several years ago when my wife bought me a Wave to take care of family man tasks around the house. My girls kept running off with it. I'm amazed how many women love these things. I never would have imagined it but it is the truth. don't beleive me look up the reviews of the wave and other multitools on "Epinions.com" a huge portion of the reviews are made by women, and as I said I had to get my girls micra's to get my wave back.

very pleased with my new charge but the worst possible thing happened the month I got it...... Nothing needed fixed. I'm not kidding not a thing I was dying to tighten or loosen or fix something and it was several weeks before I could use the thing for anything more than opening mail.... eventually though I got to use it and the bits it came with.

Looking at other reviews I really lucked out because mine came razor sharp with no defects at all. the pliars close with no space at all at the nose and everything fits like my old wave used to. I could not be happier.

I was afraid that it would not have the heft I like to feel in a tool due to the titanium but i'm tickled that my fears were unfounded. it feels the same as the wave.

two other things I worried about the pocket clip not staying on the tool and am pleased at how nice it fits and stays on the knife until I push the button to take it off. I don't use the sheath much but love to stick it in my watch pocket on my jeans where it fits perfectly. The other thing I was certain that the real tree coating would not stick and would scratch and peel off the tool and it has been at least three months and not a single scratch on it.

I had hoped that it being camo the girls would not be able to see it and sneak it into there purses!

I was in the Bass Pro Shops store over in Concord, NC a few months ago and noticed that they also had a camo version available but only in the X-TI model. Which model did you purchase?

I gave my Charge a few light passes with a 1200 grit Lansky stone(buy hand, not in the holder). It is super sharp. I touch it up on my belt or jeans. The only other "premium" stainless steel I have worked with is 440C. I do not have it any more but the 154CM seems like it holds its edge better. The 440C was probably a little easier to sharpen. Of course that depends on a lot of other things besides the kind of steel. The blade on my Supertool did not hold its edge near as well but I used a smooth steel frequently and it stayed very sharp.

I have a really nice pen-size SAK steel, but it is striated, not smooth. If you know of a similar product with a smooth steel, please direct me and thanx.

Does anybody else have the thumbhole on the serrated blade smaller that the thumbhole on the CM154 blade ??

If anyone is still wondering, the reason that the thumbholes on the CM154 blades are differend that the serrated blades, or the straight edge blades on the wave, is because they are laser cut, so they can be cut more accurately than the ones that are stamped.

The smooth steel i use is a 12" Chicago Cutlery steel purchased probably about15-20 years ago.
