I got a Crunch tool today and have a concern. The pliers do not match up even when closed, they arent off by much just enough to bug me!

How do others compare? I wont be able to return this one if I have to until Monday, but if there all the same I can save myself the trip...Thanks!

This is really a nice tool BTW...Im just real picky when it comes to my knife stuff.

I'm expecting one soon. By not matching up what do you mean, they don't close all the way, or is there a side to side mismatch?

I gotta know, I'm picky too, real picky.

LD, Its a side to side mismatch. I had the same problem with a Supertool.

Its almost the thickness of a credit card, I'll go ahead and just stop back monday after work and compare the others and I'll post back here monday night if there all the same or not.

So, what is the best price you can snag on one of these babies? I am kind of interested.

Kdarmy,

Mine are off also, but only about a mm or so. I don't think it should be a problem if it is on such a minor scale. If yours is off by much more I would bring it back just because. I am also kind of a freak when it comes to perfection.

I just looked at mine again and I think the problem is ok. If you assemble the pliers and look at the problem head on you can see past it and look at the wire cuter. The wire cutters offset the front because of the way the halves rest against each other. there is no play even if you try to force them over. It is how it is supposed to be.

And the follow up is.....I took mine back today and switched it out for one that the pliers are almost flush on the sides now. There were only three to compare but there were differences in the group. The first Cunch tool I had was way "off" compared to these others.

So if anyone is planning of getting a Crunch, Its just something to take note of. I really like this tool, Seems to be very well made...Tomorrow it goes on the job and will be put to use!

All I have seen do that. It is very minor and in no way effects function. In fact nearly all multi-tools have slight side play. No biggy. If you get another one it will have the same thing.

I have about 50 here and spot checked 20 or so. They all do it. Even the WAVE does.

I own lots of the multi-tools. SOG is my preference. Their fit-and-finish is excellent. I own four of their tools and on every one, the pliers match up perfectly. Can't say the same about other manufacturers. Maybe, with what everyone is saying, there is a quality control issue for them to fix. Don't settle for less. These tools are not cheap!

I think they were designed that way on purpose. The slight mismatch means there is room for the teeth on the wire cutters to wear, and still make contact.Just as long as it isn't way off, I wouldn't worry about it.
Most multi tools take wear into acount anymore. When I got my new gerber pliars I ws pissed the the teeth at the end of the pliars only met at the very tip. Then I looked at my old ones. The teeth met the full length of the jaw. At the tip where they were damaged, and torn up they didn't meet anymore. With the new pliars, you can wear the teeth off of the end, and they will still meet.

tsunami - Do you have any connections to SOG? In each of the seven posts you've made since you joined, you've hawked SOG products. Your posts sound as if they could have been taken straight from SOG sales brochures. In several cases, you interjected your opinion that SOG products were the best - even when SOG was not the subject of the discussion. In one thread, the question was asked, "Spyderco or Benchmade?" Your reply - SOG! So, again I ask - what connection do you have to SOG or SOG products?
