I've had a micra on my keys for about 8 years now and the scissors ar really pretty sad. I sharpened them several times but now its getting hard to cut thin paper even. I've thought about drilling out the centre pin to try and give them an overhaul but thought I'd see what you thought.

I haven't tried sharpening them yet, as I'm too lazy to do that. Buying a new one is cheap, only $15, so consider that.

I'm also considering waiting for the new Leatherman tool, the Squirt. It's roughly the same size as the micra, and is basically an updated version.

Alpha, lol
Over here the micra is $60. Also I sorta get sentimentally attached to em. When I've finished with a tool(hasn't happened yet)there probably won't be anything of it left. Just sort of a ghost blade.

:p

Wow, $60 for a Micra? That is madness. :) I'm glad I don't live in Australia.

But if you know anybody in the U.S., you can just have them mail a new one to you, that'll probably make it around $20 for tool + air mail. Hell, I'm sure plenty of the people on BF would do that for you.

I actually bought my Micra in Hong Kong. It cost me $35, but that was probably the best $35 I've ever spent on a tool. Years and years of cutting pleasure, and I'm now "the guy with the funny scissors". :)

I'm curious about what and how much you cut to dull those scissors?I've had my micra for 2+ years now. Has cut lots of paper, thread, some cloth, cloth patches, and plenty of thin cardboard.. The scissors still cut perfectly.

I like the Micra as well but took it off my key chain because it just felt too heavy in my pocket. My little Victorianox classic has a scissors and isnt' heavy at all.

Does anyone else have a problem with the weight?

My wife says I could stand to lose a few pounds, oh wait this isn't the weight watchers forum is it? :)

I use my SharpMaker 204 to sharpen my Micra scissors. It's not easy, but it can be done.

I love the SharpMaker for sharpening oddball stuff. :)

I have been carrying a Micra for over a year now and I love it. I carry it in my watch pocket and you can't even tell it's there.

Dammit, Darryl...That's what I was about to say!.:).

I carry both a Victorinox Classic and a Micra. I normally keep the SAK in the watch pocket, and the micra down in my left front pocket with my pen, etc. I really do not notice the weight, but then even at my work I usually wear Levi's.

I once had to resharpen the little scissors on my Classic. I stupidly tried to use it to cut a bead neck chain and nicked the scissor edges. They wouldn't open and close without hitching. Used the sharpmaker on them, just as on a chisel edge. After that, and after a year more of use, the nicks are virtually gone, due to the resharpening and opening/closing of the scissors.

Why not replace it with a Mini Buck Tool! Same size but you get needle nose pliers AND scissors! I've got both but since finding the Buck version the Micra stays in the drawer.

Micra, Micra...how I love thee!
Funny for the longest time I never carried one myself, but had given several as gifts. Awhile back, I had one leftover, and started carrying it after my friends and relatives I'd given them to told me how useful they were. The scissors work better than I expected. My cousin works in a machine shop, and told me he uses his to cut up old metal measuring tapes (they use the sectioned pieces for something or other). Hasn't hurt it a bit. My mother tells me that the people in her office come to borrow the blue one I gave her, and my buddy that works in CICU says he uses his on the job all the time, where they frown on the BM 721S that I gave him before.
Couple of weeks ago, I used mine to remove a doorknob that wasn't working at church, and it comes in handy almost every day around the house, too. The little clip point blade, along with the scissors (edit: along with the tweezers, duh) makes it a great "splinter removal kit", also.
I don't like it on the keys, either. It just doesn't feel "right" like the Vnox Classic does. Mine rides in my right front pocket along with a Fisher Space Pen everyday, now, and has a white Photon II attached.
I guess it's not glamorous enough for us to talk about much around here, but it's one of the most useful "knives" I've got.

Jim, I just did the very same thing this weekend (ok it was beadwork wire). I was surprised at how easily the micra scissors edge nicked.

BTW, does anyone have tips on sharpening the little blade on the Micra? I have the Sharpmaker 204 but didn't get very good results. The grind is only on one side.

apparently there's an aluminum-framed Micra out now, runs $30 rather than $20 MSRP. Haven't handled it yet though, but since I lost my old SS one, I might pick one up.

I'd just like to add that my micra has helped me through heaps and heaps of repairs since I got it. If I don't have my Leatherman tool on me then micra comes to the rescue (since its always on my keys) and unfortunately I've been pretty cruel to it but a grind here and there and back it comes. For the blade sharpening I just use a cheap pocket stone and put the standard edge on it. Saw my girlfriend use the one I gave her for her birthday to clean her car battery terminal and her keys touched the other terminal, a little grind here and there, back into action (fixed the knife too)
I've often wondered if I happened to get stuck without my survival kid while camping, I would most likely have the micra. Since that thought I added a flint to it.:)

Jeeze, I dunno if I could get through a day wihtout my Micra! I bought it when I worked as a PC (hardware) supporter and it has saved me a lot of walks back to the office to get tools I had forgotten!:)
The sciccors on mine are starting to get dull, so I guess I'll have to try sharpening them - or better have a pro do it!:)

Another option may be to send your MIcra to the factory for refurbishment, after all, it does have a 20 year warranty!

Hey dartanyon, don't Leatherman products come with a 25 year guarantee? Why don't you contact them to see about having your Micra overhauled or at least have the scissors replcaed? You might have to pay for shipping but it should be minimal since there is not a lot of weight involved. Anyway it would sure be a whole lot cheaper than $60!
