Leatherman: NEW for 2005, a sneak peek!!

damn, i just bought a new wave :( looks like this will be a sweet deal :)

*you gotta love us muli-tool guys, we're already switching out tools on product not available yet!

Thanks, guys, I'm pretty excited about the removable file as well.

Aux, that blade in Surge will not be 154 CM; it will be the same as Wave and our other standard blades (which I think is 420 HC).

Choubbi and enkidu, maybe you're younger than a lot of Leatherman tool owners. Those of us with glasses could hardly survive without that smallest screwdriver bit. A prying implement would be a nice addition to either of the new tools, but multi-tools by their nature are not really able to withstand the lateral stresses that activity would introduce.

When will the new tools appear in the products section and spec sheets section of the website?

Spec sheets will go up later this month (probably next week, actually); pages in the Products section are scheduled to be up by June 1.

if it's just for the flat small screwdriver, why not to put it in a layer as thin as the screwdriver itself?(not the screwdriver's tip, of course, the body) that would avoid the waste of space that the bit holder takes (I remember it was big when I saw it). just my 2 cents.

Swisstools greatly does, why wouldn't Leatherman tools do? because of the screws?

Well, I'm not that young. :) The problem with the mini-screwdriver on the new Wave and Charge is the fact that the handle is completely out of proportion with the bit. To use it, you can't hold the driver in your fingertips; you need to grip in your hands, making the process of aligning, inserting and turning the driver much less precise and more prone to slippage and strippage. I know the value of small screwdrivers, I carry a V'nox Cybertool and V'nox Manager for their small tools. V'nox got it right when they made the tiny screwdriver insert for the corkscrew: small bit, small driver. And yes, as choubbi pointed out, the width the tiny bit takes up is completely out of proportion with the size of the actual tool.

Or maybe they were designed to be taken out and used....

hi,i have some more question....

does the new tools have bronze bushings too?

i am interest with the bigger scissors in the surge......so how is it's spring work??

With the Surge comeing out what will become of the new wave?Who wants the wave when the surge has everything, but better and more stuff.

I have a design for the prying attachment that won't compromise the joints.

While you are here, I for one would like to know what has been done about the poor grinds on the 154CM Charge models. The one I have is a disgrace and I can see what look like milling machine marks or an exceedingly coarse grinder. Monica was supposed to get back to me/us here and nothing happened.

Grinds

Awesome! I didn't realize the Surge was going to be that big which is one of the reasons I was thinking about getting the Core instead. Well thats certainly going to make my decision easier. I'm relieved that its going to be that size because its the one I initially wanted and it looks like it will be easier to take apart than the Core so I can remove that stupid bit driver. :D

The Surge looks to be very close to my ideal multi-tool... I want them to drop the mini-screwdriver and add an awl to the Charge Ti/new Wave. So what do they do? Add the awl but drop the file+metal saw! Although if you could swap the saw for a metal file+saw that might make it a little closer to my ideal. Hopefully answers will be forthcoming in the next few days....

Pretty close to my ideal as well. It would be mine if they would drop the micro screwdriver and have the awl, saw, and file.

I really like the idea of interchangebale blades.

I have bought so many Leathermans over the past few years it makes me sick, I have 2 X Supertool 200 and 2 X charge and one Blast. I EDC a Charge and Love it! I about fell out when I seen this thread and tonight I went on Equipped to Survive web site to look at the tools.

I will be adding both a Surge! and A Core! to my collection, And yes I only use Leatherman Tools. Keep it up Leatherman and rule the Multi Tool World!!!!!

yeah the surge is my favorite leatherman. I personlly like the swappable blades because I use my diamond file a lot and I can buy new files and saws for only 5 bucks
