Leatherman Skeletool CX

Im pretty happy with mine . Good fit and finish , good action . Pliers are comfortable for light or medium duty tasks . My clip is still on , but I mostly carry mine using the biener - cliped to a paracord loop hanging in my pocket . The blade works well for my EDC tasks , The serations add cutting power , and abuse cutting ability in an otherwise small blade .

My other multis are pretty much relegated to tool bage , and glove compartments .

I fixed the problem! And no dremel was involved, fortunately.

It turns out that on the ring around the torx screw which controls the pivot tightness, there is a very subtle indentation which allows that ring to fit snug against the carbon steel part. In my case however, the ring was turned so that the indentation was in the wrong place, and as a result the ring was slightly tilted. This, in turn, caused the blade to be slightly skewed instead of turning smoothly around the pivot. (Please bear with me here -- English is not my first language.)

I have to admit that I didn't notice this myself -- the indentation is quite subtle and hard to see. Once somebody with sharper eyes pointed it out to me however, it was trivial to fix.

In my case, the problem was already there when I took it out of the box. However, one could easily cause this by accidentally turning the ring while trying to adjust the pivot tightness. So take a look at that before you bring out the dremel..

Cool! I'll be interested in hearing your opinion on it. I've been traveling a lot recently but I've gotten a chance to compare the Skeletool CX and the Zilla-Tool Jr. I think the quality of construction of the Skeletool is better than the Zilla-Tool Jr but the Zilla-Tool Jr is growing on me.

Although the Zilla-Tool Jr is 5 1/4" long and it doesn't fold up, it is rather thin and I don't find it too large for pocket carry (unlike the larger Zilla-Tool).

The Zilla-Tool Jr pliers are small even compared to the Skeletool pliers. On the plus side, I find the Zilla-Tool Jr to be more ergonomic. The handles curve inward rather than outward which I find much more comfortable for gripping the pliers and drivers.

The drivers are quite small though.

I would have much preferred the same size drivers as those on the regular size Zilla-Tool. According to the CRKT website, an adapter will allow the Zilla-Tool Jr to be used with standard hex bits.

Edit:
I just noticed that the description of the CRKT Get-A-Way driver says that the adapter can be used with Zilla-Tool Jr.

I perfer the CX to the Zilla. Sadly the Zilla's lock does not engage the blade so it doesn't fully lock. Major safety concern:(

One other little important tid-bit. The carabiner/bottleopener acyually WORKS!! ;)

I felt the skeletool was to chinzy,for 59.99 i expect more what I don't
know but for what it is I'm not impressed.I feel leatherman is losing
Tim Leathermans vision.and making gadgety crap and throwing techni
engineering.I miss the simplicity of the original pst.not alot of moving,

Well, these babies were made for EDC carry. If one is looking to "hack an airfield out of the jungle/rebuild civilization from scratch", then by all means get a Surge/Wave/Charge model(s).
So far I have used every tool on my CX, at least once. Unlike my Wave where a few tools have become lint/dirt/cr*p magnet(s);)

The thing I love about Leatherman tools is they last. If you don't like the newest model which is targeted to everyday life use, it's not a big deal. I own the Wave and I plan for it to last me a very long time even with hard abuse. If you like the PST then keep using it? The skeletool isn't suppose to be comparable to the PST. I want something that people don't think I'm going to murder them with when I use it. The skeletool might be that, if I can ever find one in stores. How is real world application "gadgety crap"?:grumpy:
