I have an older Leatherman Super Tool and see the newer model on sale for 44.99 and was wondering how much better it is than my older model.Had the guy at the store take the packaged super tool out from behind the locked glass cabnet but with out tearing the package apart I couldn't really get a good look at it.Anybody here have both models, what do you think,Gordy

Gordy, I've got the old ST myself but I recently picked up a Leatherman Pulse which has the same lock release as the new ST 200. I think this is the only change and it's probably worth it if you're looking to spend the few bucks. The new release is pretty good.

The new model is contoured a little better for those really hard holds with the pliers. I prefer the sleeker profile of the old model as the new one tends to hang up a little in my pocket.

For $45, I would buy a Swiss Tool "X". Fit and finish on the SwissTool is much better plus, I really like the scissors better then a serrated blade for general usefulness. File the flat screwdriver to a sharp edge (the SwissTool is totally polished so the flat screwdriver blade is slightly rounded and can slip out of the screwhead slot).

Guys at the office are pretty surprised when reach into my front pocket and pull out a Leatherman SuperTool but, it beats the heck out of tearing up my fingers with pack staples when you are replacing a laserjet toner cartridge!

For the money differance between the older
orginal Supertool and the new "200" model
I'd advise you to save your money. What the
cost differance buys is a fancy unlock lever
you really don't need.

I tried the new lock on the pulse finding it to
be a "gadget" that was nice but not all that
reliable long term. Leatherman took a pounding
for years because their tools didn't have a fancy
way to unlock the blades. So they enginerred the
lock gadget now on their tools. What John Q. public
didn't think about was that a simple direct lock
will be much less likley to fail long term.

That is why when the 200 supertool came out I
bought 2 extra of the original supertools to back
up mine as it has NEVER failed me in any job I've
asked it to do.

Ya know what they say......
"keep it simple & it'll work everytime"

As to the Swiss tool .....well save your money.
It's a shinney pretty face next to a supertool.:barf: :barf:

Thanks guys,I think your right Tightwad about the unlock lever.I got to look at one at the REI store. And I thought the same as you did.The lever almost seemed harder to operate than just pulling out another tool half way to release the lock and those release levers don't make it as sleek as the older model I have now.Gordy
