I heard around these parts that a multitool is a great thing to have in a PSK so you could have it in a survival situation. Plus they are just darn handy to have around. I've been wanting one for a few years anyway, so when my wife asked me what I'd like for Valentines Day...:D

I haven't had time to fully evaluate the tool, but I'll give you my first impressions.

If you don't want to spend an hour cleaning it...get the stainless finish not the black oxide.
This thing is very large and somewhat heavy compared to a lot of similar tools out there, so if weight is a factor, consider that.
Blades are sharp as hell and the saw (which you can swap out with a file/diamond file) blade looks very aggressive, although I haven't tested it yet.
You can access the saw two knife blades and the scissors without opening the pliers...very handy.
All the tools on this thinkg lock open, again, very handy, not to mention safe.

Again just first impressions on this multi-tool. I'm glad I have it as part of my outdoor gear. This and a good fixed blade I think would make a great survival team. I can't believe I went so long without one! -Matt-

I have a Leatherman Wave, and I carry it every single day, and use it just about every single day. I couldn't live without it, and haven't for the last 10 or so years.

P.S. the saw is aggresive and great cutter. At least the one on my wave is, and the back of the saw makes the best ferro rod(firesteel) striker, I have ever used.

I love my surge. Its a little too heavy for EDC, however, it is great in your pack. A very solid tool. Mine is always in my 4x4.

I have a whole Bat-Belt® on my TacTailor Rigger belt, so I don't even notice the weight any more. I EDC mine, along with a selection of T-shank blades including a bi-metal and a thin scrollsaw blade. Combine that with the full bit-kit, and I've got a whole toolbox on my belt. A co-worker came to me the other day wanting in my office toolbox to get into a HDD case so he could look at some terminally damaged platters, and I surprised he hell out of him by popping my T15 bit in and disassembling it with my Surge. :). It's also put in several car audio systems (stripper/crimper) and been my food-prep tool for a weekend on the road with our toddler. I can't imagine daily life without it.

Ive got one too, it is a bit heavy . I usually carry either a ST 200 or PST but lug out the surge every so often. Been meaning to pick up a Vic multi as well. I didnt realize they made a black one though.

I have one and carry it on a duty belt. It's really heavy. I won't buy another. I've also had problems with the little springs that hold the screwdriver blades and the hacksaw/file in place. I'll have to send it back to Leatherman, but I'm not sure I like the knife well enough to pay the $30.
