Leatherman Surge loose?

I have a new Leatherman Surge. When closed the two halves are loose.Theres a lot of play, you can gently shake it and it will rattle.When opened everything is tight.Is this normal? It doesnt seem normal, my Kick has no play when closed.
 
an old joke was the Surge was not just a nice Multitool, but a good musical instrument! lol

some seem to rattle and some don't, but I hear it doesn't seem to make a big difference in performance. You can always send it in.
 
My friend has a Surge that rattles. When he got it we talked to other friends who had Surges and surfed the net for reviews.
Apparently its normal on most Surges, wouldnt worry about it if i were you.

Some while ago there was forum discussion about Surge rattle during which someone posted that Leatherman had modified recent copies to eliminate that problem. How far back that mod was supposedly done I can't remember, but my Surge from mid-2007 was totally quiet. My guess is that anything made since then would probably not rattle, but maybe the reported fix is internet legend and in actuality it really varies from one sample to another. Honestly, I don't know.
