Should i get a leatherman tool or a victorinox swiss tool? Ive owned a leatherman super tool but didnt like it much, hurt the hands. Tested out a swiss tool and liked it, but dont know how it would hold up in the long run. Im going to the shop tomorrow, theyre out of swiss tools but if its worth it enough to have them order it i guess i could just wait for them to get more in.

You should go with the Victorinox. I have owned the Leatherman Surge, Old Wave, New Wave, and Pulse, and I was never happy with any of them.

First of all, I think that the steel used by leatherman totally sucks. The knives are so worthless. And you can tell that the overall quality of their tools are not that good. I had to return a Surge because one of the locks was not working because of a manufacturing defect. Most of their tools have a lot of wiggle between the handles too.

If you have ever held a swisstool in your hand, you would immediately be able to see and feel the difference.

And why not just go buy a new one online instead of waiting? They're only like 50 bucks on amazon.

No credit card lol. I was going to go with the swiss tool but i wanted to see what other people thought because i havent really used the swiss tool just tinkered with it in my hand and checked it out. It is nice quality. I loved my buck tool but they stopped making those.

Victorinox has spectacular fit and finish but I have found leatherman's to be merely adequate. Of course this isn't a 2000$ custom so I would simply go for the tool that has the most practical features (file, screwdriver/s, woodsaw etc.) and feels best in the hand.

P.S. Leatherman's tend to rust like crazy, not the best characteristic of a tool that has so many nooks and crannies

For what it's worth- A friend of mine who works in the business highly recommends the Vic- as soon as I have a problem with one of my Leathermans (been a few years, so far), I might try one.

If you're starting from scratch, I would handle them and see which one feels best. I'm sure either will do the job. I think our only problem these days is an embarrassment of riches!

After recently being given 3 older victorinox saks, I spent some time playing with one of the larger ones, and I am really impressed with the quality..
To me, I can't say one is better than the other but, if ya put them side by side, I think you would be impressed with the difference in workmanship..

Well, i have had the tips of my leatherman supertool snap off, ive had the small screw driver on my gerber and the replaceable wire cutter bits break on my gerber, the buck tool the pliers crapped out. My grandfather is a mechanic and nothign is wrong with his vic so im leaning more towards that but if somebody can give me a reason not to maybe ill try the LM's out at the store.

When you mis-use or abuse anything ... it will fail.
Never use a multi-tool when then proper tool should have used an 8" KLEIN Linemen pliers.

i was using my tools properly, the gerber wire cutters i wasnt even using when they decided to break, the tip on the screw driver snapped in a screw that got stuck, the tips on the LM snapped while cutting something, not prying or chiseling and the buck pliers just failed with use. I respect my tools but come on, i need something better than that. Its been about 10 years since i last purchased a multi tool so i dont know how much theyve upped the quality.

The Vic Swisstool , and spirit are the best built multi's out there . Question is do they have the features you want/need ? The Charge Ti is also pretty nice , and has onehanded opening , plus a pocket clip . I enjoy both , tuff descission .

I guess ill have to check em all out, my reason for asking this was because i hear people downing LM all the time and i dont want to buy a tool i have to worry about or fiddle with.

I have an older wave and a vic spirit tool.
I can honestly say that I find nothing wrong with the LM.. it has some wiggle but I worked hard with it for many years and it has never rusted or failed me in any way.
That said, I like the vic much better, better fit and finish, worked just as hard with no problems and has better tools for my needs.

I own a Micra, Surge, wave, and juice pro. The only trouble I have had was with the juices. The wire cutters seemed to bend and not cut small wire. I sent it in and withing 2 weeks I have a new juice pro, It has been about 2 years and have not had a problem with it yet.

The wave and Surge hand one handed opening which is nice. The blade are 420hc and seem to do fine, and sharpen up real nice.

Yeah, i played around with the surge but it just didnt feel like it should, the vic had a much smoother feel and the tools were just better. The surge also had that ugly blade look and i like the polished better. Overall i liked the vic better, it had all the tools i needed and none of the tools i didnt.
