Leatherman is launching a new Wave “Alpha” on October 14th. Not much info released yet but Leatherman announced an overview will be done next week. Looks like magnacut blade with g10 handles.

I guess this is the new upgrade multitool for everyone who doesn't want to use the Free platform. Cool. The Arc is ideal for me, and I'm not going to be in the market for something else unless mine breaks out of warranty, but I'm happy to see they're still developing multitools and not just doing a complete makeover into lifestyle knives.

It looks interesting and definitely an upgrade but I am happy with my Arc , Wave+, Signal and S2 and a wingman for backup in my pickup. If I were starting out a fresh I would certainly consider getting one. I would also prefer a brighter color handle for better visibility.

This is cool, definitely going to look to pick one up. The bigger outside accessible scissors and awl look great. I like the Wave platform vs the Arc and the blade shape on the Wave Alpha looks like it will be good for every day tasks.

I looked into the ARC and picked the Swiss Tool Spirit instead -- but a revamped Wave would have been a contender, depending on the (likely high) price.

I'm curious why people would pick the Wave-style operation over the Arc. I still have my 1st gen Wave and I use it sometimes, and I had a Charge for a long time, but the Arc blows them away for me in ease of use. I've been carrying one since it came out. So for those of you who prefer the Wave (and there are no wrong answers, I just want to know) - what about it do you like better, and why?

If i were to guess, ill guess i can't afford it
The wave + is tried and true, I wonder what changed. Ive been on the fence over the wave and victorinox's products. Hope it gets released in a non coated version

I agree, I’ve been wearing and using the ARC since it came out.

I wore an SOG Powerlock for many, many years. When it broke I bought a new Rebar. It was too stiff and just didn’t feel right. It’s still in my truck door, but the Arc is just smooth, one handed and well thought out.

I must say, the Wave has a huge following. They’ll sell a ton of those.

This somewhat sums up why I prefer the Wave platform. Smaller pliers head can fit in more spots, more comfortable handles, ruler, etc.. Also once the Wave breaks in you can open the pliers one handed, not as easily as the Arc but you can do it. For me the only tools I need one hand accessible are the knife blade and scissors and the Wave Alpha fixes the scissors issue on the Wave Plus. The Arc is a great tool though no doubt

Looks really cool. I probably wont get one unless I see one discounted on the secondary but it’s neat to see new materials.

I can't believe they got rid of the serrated blade and replaced it with a saw, what a nitwit idea. You will get a lot more use from the serrated blade than the saw, and if a saw is something you absolutely need because you see yourself sawing for hours each day then bring a sak model with a saw in it like the Camper and throw it in the pack.

The tool load out looks really good to me. I always thought two knife blades on an MT was foolish. I’ll the leave the serrated vs non serrated argument for others.

When I was doing network drop installs I used the saw a lot. I was already carrying enough equipment that I wasn’t going to add a standalone saw or another MT.

That's a good price for what this is. It seems like a much more worthy upgrade over the Wave for that price, compared to the Charge+ TTi. I had the TTi (before the plus versions came out, late 2000s) and I really never liked it. Colors are a good idea too.

I use the saw on all of these Leathermans pretty frequently. Sometimes for little things around the house, but even more outside. A couple days ago I needed to trim back some branches where my daughter was playing. Yesterday I was out on an afternoon hike I hadn't done before and used it to cut a staff. Etc etc.
