I got mine yesterday. What great service!
First impressions? I'm disappointed. They look and feel flimsy to me. Yeah it's got a lot of tools but I'll take my Leatherman supertool over the Wave. I like an industrial feel to my multitools. I've been a long time fan of Leatherman. Bought the first model when it first came out and it's still going strong. But the Wave surprised me. I expected more rigidity, like all the rest of their tools.
Now I'm convinced that the SAK multitool is a far superior tool. The Wave has good fit and finish and I'm sure it is useful but not industrial. The SAK and the Leatherman Supertool, in contrast, are built like a tank. This I like. And all the tools lock on the SAK and Supertool. Not true for the Wave. And the SAK tools are easily accessible from the outside. Only 4 blade are accessible from the outside on the Wave.
Sorry to rain on the Wave parade here but it's just my opinion. I'm sure others may disagree. But I would pick up an SAK multitool first before deciding.
Now price-wise, I sure don't regret the $27 I paid for the Wave. At that price it's surely an incredible bargain. But I'm awfully glad I didn't pay the full price.
Maybe the Wave is tougher than I think it is. Only time and a few drops on the shop floor will tell. My original Leatherman has been beat to death over the past decade or so but you can hardly tell it. I wonder if the Wave will fare as well?
