After work today my vacation officially starts!

The wife (pregnant) and I will be driving (9hrs) down to Gatlinburg, TN for a week long getaway. The original plan was to have an overnight hiking trip mixed into our day hikes, but now with her being pregnant we'll stick to all day hikes.

I can't wait!!!!

Also on this trip will be my first ever visit to Smoky Mountain Kifeworks

AND

Picking up my Spear Point from the Graham Brothers!!! I can not wait for this trip to get started.

I'll be sure to take plenty of pics of the hikes and the knives!

Awesome! Sounds like it will be a lot of fun. Congrats on the new one coming along! Probably a worthwhile trade for the allnighters! ;)

Hope you find some neat stuff at SMKW, it's hard to walk out of that place without something in your hands.

There are plenty of day hikes in the park. Nice hikes to many waterfalls. Be sure to drive the Roaring Fork Motor trail. You can access it from downtown Gatlinburg. Nice scenic drive with waterfalls and short stops along the road. SMKW and Bass pro are nice stops. The "Happy Hiker" is a great outdoor shop in town.

Have an excellent trip. We look forward to seeing family and nature pics when you return. My brother worked as a biologist for Tex Parks & Wildlife for 30 years, and his favorite vacation spot is still SMNP. Enjoy yourselves!

Hey I just got back last week. My wife and my daughters stayed in Pigeon Forge in a cabin right up from the applebutter barn. We had a family reunion with her family. They live in Morristown. Its a 9 hr drive for me too. Going thru Knoxville traffic is Horrible. I went to the SMKW and Gatlinburge. We didnt go to the rolling fork motortrail this time but we still had fun. To me going from Gatlinburg to Cherokee over the Mtns and up to Clingmans dome is the greatest part of a trip. I love the veiws. I like Cherokee cause it still reminds me of what the mtns was when i was a kid. Plus you can find some great handmade Indian stuff. Anyway like I said we just got back and i hope you have a great trip. Oh and we saw a bear.

While in Gatlinburg and in the park, don't forget to tour Cades Cove. You will not regret it, lots of deer and an occasional bear. Great History at the old churches. One was built by 115 folks for 115 dollars.

What a beautiful area. SMKW is a cool shop to visit, too. Have fun and take lots of pictures for us!

Sounds like you are going to be cruising around a good bit since Graham Bros are down in Cleveland. If you are down that far south, swing over to the Ocoee River (East on 64) and check it out. It is very scenic. I almost always stop at Bass Pro, Smokey Mt Knife Works, art galleries and then inside the park, Cades Cove, Clingmon's Dome, Roaring Fork, and hike back to a number of the water falls. If the wild flowers are begining to grow, Roaring Fork is particularly good. Have a good time.

Enjoy the time with your wife, it may be your last nice single vacation for awhile with the baby on the way. Take your time and go easy through the days, it's a great time to spend with your wife...you'll get to play with the knives when you get back home, and to us!

Thanks for all the tips and the well wishes fellas.

I'll be taking a ton of pics and will post some up when we return. I just finished up the final touches on the Jeep getting it ready and it's now time to turn in for the night and get a few hours sleep before heading out.

I made a note of the places you guys are throwing out there and plan on hitting what I can while I am down there.

Like some of you have said - we both plan on enjoying this as much as possible!!!!

Oh - and I can't wait for my Graham and to go to SMKW!

See ya when I return :)

When I'm at SMKW, I always end up buying a few parring knives as they have a great selection of Vics and some of the better brands. I don't think I'ver ever stopped at SMKW and not bought something. :)
