leek or skyline?

I have both. I prefer the Skyline. I like manual over assisted, prefer the way the Skyline carries/clips over the Leek, and the traction of G10 (although there is a G10 Leek available as well). However I do like the Leek blade shape but overall I prefer the Skyline.

Overall both are great knives. Can't go wrong with either. I feel that the Leek is more of a gentleman knife while the Skyline is a work knife.

Skyline for sure. Coyote Brown G10 with black coated blade version can be had for $35~. For some reason, the Leek never really did it for me though it is an extremely popular blade.

Another vote for Skyline
Leek just doesn't do it for me, but it's extremely easy to sharpen

Got my Skyline today. I just love the way it feels in my hand, and the way it holds in the pocket. Great knife for sure, but you can't go wrong with either.

I prefer the Leek. I haven't really warmed up to the Skyline. I'm certainly in the minority here, but I think the flipper action could be better. I like "auto like" action in manual flippers. I don't like to have to give any wrist action to get the knife open. I find I really have to slam the flipper to get it open. Sure, when you're playing with the knife it's easy since you're concentrating on flipper and you're flicking it over and over repeatedly. But when your mind is on opening a box, or whatever task at hand, you want the knife to be 100% streamline idiot proof when it comes to deploying it. Too many times its only deployed halfway on me. Also since the small thumbstud budges right up against the g10 scale you can't push the side of it with your thumb, so you have to snag the top of it with the meat of your thumb which is uncomfortable.

I don't hate the Skyline. I really love the looks and feel of the G10. But ease of use is tops on my list when it comes to what I carry. Speedsafe is idiot proof when your mind is focused on the thing that needs cutting rather than the knife itself. Solid, fast, easy deployment every time, and you can't close the knife on your thumb accidentally. I love Speedsafe.

Those aren't "thumbstuds". They're blade stops. That's why they nestle into the top of the handles and liner.

I'm with Moxy. Finally picked up my first Skyline when Dave got the latest shipment of damascus knives and if it weren't for the damascus, I'd sell it. The Skyline has hoards of followers but don't put me on the list. I like the little Leek much better.

Leek for light duty, afraid to break the tip off.

Chill or Skyline for heavier duty use.

Seconded. The leek is a great little knife, but every time I open a box or something with it I check the tip. My skyline doesn't give me that issue.

My carry Leek is a TiZDP so I do not want to break the tip off. Love that knife so much though.

The Chill is about $18 on the bay, so if it gets broke, its cheap to replace. Have 4 more in the safe as backups!!

I know. But they also serve as your typical thumbstuds, or they would if the G10 was machined a little.

Have both, carry both, and like them both a lot. Overall, I'd pick the Leek over the Skyline. Specifically, the composite blade Leek. It carries well (it's very thin and compact, so it is practically unnoticeable in pocket), handles well (can get a little slippery when wet though), and the CPM-D2 sharpens well and holds a good edge for a long time.

I actually don't have a problem with the location of the studs. In fact, I prefer them! I have small hands, and with a flick of my thumb the blade flies out.

I don't have a problem with them either. I would prefer them over the flipper if it was easier to get to them, but I just go for the flipper instead of fiddling around.

For a working knife I would get the Skyline
I own both
The Leek is nice but a tad too fragile for medium duty
IMHO

Get em both?

I like the feel of the Leek a little better...the fit and finish are somewhat nicer. The Skyline is a bit more functional with better traction on the handle and recurve on the blade, as opposed to the almost perfectly straight edge on the Leek. If you want something more fashionable, get the Leek. If you're looking more for function, go with the Skyline.
