When it comes to traditionals I would probably be confused if the nick was on the opposite side.
Now I do like lefty liner locks the way Victorinox has them set up.

I've had several left-hand custom slip joints made for me. I wouldn't go to the trouble again. I prefer a single blade that can be pinched open.

I'm left handed. I hold the knife in my left hand and open it with my right thumbnail. The edge will be facing up when I finish. It works and I don't have to switch hands.
