How many folks here own left-handed SnG's? About how long did you have to wait after placing your order?

Thanks in advance,

Thom

I don't believe that they have gone into production yet. I could be wrong, though

My guess is that they'd be custom orders as I've read elsewhere that tons of people will bug the Strider Guys for left-handed liner and framelocked folders and most will be short of cash when the moment comes.

I would jump on one.

Lefties are an underserved market. One maker who gives 'em some respect is Crawford, who will occasionally do a small run of lefties - and they usually sell out real quick. It just goes to show you. I just scored a lefty frame-locked KFF; they had one Perfigo left as of a phone call this morning.

Yes, it must be a hassle to tool up and work "backwards" to get them done, but it certainly pleases an appreciative audience.

Hey Boink, I think you udnerstate when you say underserved.
Lots of us lefties out here, very few knives available to us.
Your point about disappearing from inventory quickly when they are available seems to be ignored by most manufacturers. The custom makers will usualld do it, but the wait time is usually twice that of a "standard" right hand design.

And here I thought every maker was working backwards making all their rightie variations of products.

Damned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I'm a leftie as well.

Then again, I use my right handed knives right handed more than the left hand does, adapt and conquer.

Okay, so our total number of people owning left-handed SnG's, unlike our number of left-handed people owning right-handed SnG's, is the goose egg.

Yes, it's always going to be an issue with us lefties.

Hell, I had to learn to shoot right handed as well or be limited to the guns made ambi. There are more and more of them made all the time so it has become a non-issue with the choices one can make in that venue.

I'm hoping one day the market makers will bear fruit and produce more southpaw frinedly folders for us as well.

Stay safe.

In the computer age, I cannot see the problem. And the concept of 'backwards' is the key.

I don't think a computer can tell the difference. To that end, what is stopping a CAD design from just relaying 'backwards data' to a CNC machine?

As it comes to the final handwork, I mean, the craftsman put a bevel on both the left and right hand edges.

Is there something I am missing regarding 'tooling costs'?

I think that it comes down to demand, there aren't enough Lefties pitching a fit for a Left Handed version.

I was checking with Kit Carson about the C2O he said there have been about 4 people who have indicated that they want a left handed version. It seems that people say they want a Lefty but don't follow through.

If we start telling people that we want left handed knives and then follow through with actual purchases; We will see more Left handed knives.

I know many right handed first responders who carry lefty because the strong side is occupied with other gear.

I think that the potential market is bigger than the 10% or so of left handed people. We all just need to step up and commit to the makers.

Mike

BTW there was some discussion last summer about a lefty run of SNG's.

Mumblypeg,

It could be a vicious circle of demand limited by the actual supply.

I remember when motorcycles did not have tubeless tires. There were no mag wheels, so why should a tire company build something for no market? And why should a mag wheel company build an expensive mag when all that was really needed was a cheap spoke wheel?

I think this is a 'if they build it, we will come' issue.

The count is zero on responses to the original question because if such a beast as a leftie SnG exists, few have seen it.
Further to what Brownie said cincerning lefties using their right hand, think about it.
The laws of probabitility prove that 50% of us are born left handed.
From an early age, lefties are forced to either use their right hand or cleverly devise methods of modifying technique to function in a left hand. For example, consider telephones (wired), butter knives with the offset, ladels, scissors, handwriting, and on and on....
I guess this is why those of us who remain lefties in adulthood tend to be more creative and adaptable.

csbjr:

Left handed people use the right side of their brain.

The right side of the brain is where creativity is developed.

There are advantages to being left handed, one that is important that comes to mind is it throws the righties off when we give them a jab and follow with a hook.

They think it came from the wrong side but it actually came from the left, where few train to defend against. Consequently, in combatives we have an advantage almost all the time.

Adapt and conquer. Learn to use double escrima sticks, it's the fastest way I have found to make anyone ambi-dextrous in about 10 hours.

But then there is the "Dominant Eye" theory.
Since I am left handed, and I lost my left eye to some schrapnel back in '68, some people say I don't use my brain at all.
(-::D :D

Okay, I gave it a try and learned double escrima sticks. Various combinations involving the 5 cardinal strikes and umbrella block ("payon" in Tagalog, I think) as well as some non-cardinal 'swipe' that finishes off a 1-2-2 combination. To force a neurological adaptation, 1.75" thick rattan batons were used.

The end result?

Rattan batons are horrible for cutting plastic, wire, and wrapping paper. While they do open boxes, they often crush the contents.

There's no verifiable feedback as to whether or not the Brownie pop worked (they're always locked open) and doing so puts strain on my shoulder sockets.

There was one thing called cruzada that, with squared sticks, might help cut wire, but my arms hurt too much.

:p

Sorry.... had to do it...

I see that lefties who own SnGs greatly outnumber lefty SnGs. Fair enough.

Thanks for the replies!

For jujitsu, wouldn't they be hanbos?

I learned them in jujitsu, too. Do you study Ketsugo or does your class just like learning about the world out there?

There is some credence to the lefties learning to handle things in a right-hand world.

Jimi Hendrix's father taught him NOT to unstring and then re-string a guitar to play left-handed. That way, Jimi could play anywhere he was with anyone's guitar.

Look closely at the pictures, all of his guitars are right-handed, just played upside down.
