Left handed ?

I'm left handed as well, I tend to like anything from Benchmade with an Axis Lock as well as Spyderco's compression Lock and Ball Bearing Lock. All three of these are really left hand friendly EDC options.

Vote with your wallet and let the makers know!

Most lefties would agree, we are not treated equally....

I guess that 65 years has just taught me to "Deal with it"....

Lefty here. I'm always banging on Spyderco to come out with LH models.
Since you're new and I care, here's the skinny - you're tee teeing up a rope.

I thank you for your comments. Not much of a LHC crowd though.

I feel your pain. So many times I was sold on a knife only to realize it was not ambi. A case in point would be the AG Russel Acies II. Loved it, then realized it's not tapped for lefties. I do have a LH Insingo and I like it.

You should check out his new folder. Same as Acies but with VG10 and tapped for lefties. (And with flipper) I'm gonna get one myself soon.

I was hoping to see a lot more left handers show up here as a bit of an indicator that we'd really like to be included in maker's sensibilities.
I'd love to hear/see what we all have as a favourite carries, whether LHC or ambi.
As mentioned previously, my CR lrg. L.H. Sebenza 21 frame lock & my Spyderco Native 5 (ambi) lockback are my 2.
See y'all around the forum I hope.

Lefty here! My first dedicated lefty was a spyderco military. It's absolutely fantastic. Then came the DPX HEST 2.0. It too is completely awesome. My BM 710 is beautifully ambidextrous. But those are the ones that get the most use in my collection so far. But yeah I definitely wish there were more lefty dedicated models.

WHY are the knives we would choose to purchase NOT produced, stocked, & readily available in L.H.carry? Is this not a relevant business consideration? Surely there isn't a big changeover involved in the manufacture.

It's a right handed world, that's why! WHen was the last time you saw a left handed can opener, or a pair of lefty scissors, or even lefty notebooks anywhere? I know they exist, but nobody carries them.

All I know is that after you lay your hands on a lefty model knife, it's really hard to go back to the right handed models (we're talking frame and liner type locks). As other's have said, Benchmade's Axis lock is pretty much ambidextrous. I've found the compression lock on the PM2 is basically set up for right handers and as such, that area of the knife digs into my palm during heavy, hard cutting (I really like the strength and reliability of the compressioin lock though). I have a couple left handed Sebenzas that I like. Many of the custom makers will make you a left handed version of their designs.

Funny thing is, I DO have a pair of L.H. scissors. AND I hate 'em. :D
The thing about being left handed is, that a bunch of us do many things R.H.'d like using a baseball bat, or hockey stick or playing my bass guitar R.H.'d. But we still need the left for using a fork for eating or holding a pen for writing.

Im a lefty as well! We change the world wether good or bad unfortunately.

Leonardo Da Vinci
Benjamin Franklin
Alexander the Great
Julius Caesar
Napoleon
President Barack Obama
Osama Bin Laden
Adolf Hitler

Some Emersons are avialble in Left hand models but you need to get them from Emerson directly. I have a CqC-7 in a Lefty for my cqc-7 collection (obession).

My carry as a left hander is:
Benchmade Griptilian- most carried, usually at work.
LH Reeve Insingo- most pleasurable to carry and use. Usually weekends
LH Spyderco Military- When I want a large blade.
Spyderco Para Mil. work rotation.
Leatherman Wave- carried everyday.

I have a lh sebenza, but carry slip joints. Technially, most slips are rh. One would need to have a custom built with the nail nicks reversed (and blade configurations on multiblade knives reversed) to be truly lh. GEC made a few.

I'm kind of like Styg said in his post. I've always been a lefty, handrwriting etc. but I've been fortunate enough to have the ambi thing going. In regards to knives, it took a nerve injury in my right arm that controls my right hand to actually put my knives in my left hand and figure it out so too speak. I can still close a knife in my right hand, it's just a little weak. I've found the HEST folder I can close easier than I ever did with my right hand, when I bought that knife RYP hadn't started selling to lefties but I can't see their lefty model being any easier to close than it already is for me. Liner locks so far for me haven't been any problem and actually it feels more natural to me closing the knife in my left hand. Gerber's Instant (love that knife) is a botton lock, you can close that with your nose if you had to. In closing, I have yet to buy a lefty knife because I don't have the need for it though I close my knives in my left hand. It's a lefty thing.

Speaking of AG Russell. I was watching his videos the other day for the first time, imagine that, especially when I have his catalog. But I think it was his smaller Barlow (in yellow Delrin) or the small folding hunter....I think that was it. But he explained how easy it was to close with one hand and to my amazement (I feel silly now) he turned the knife around backwards and disengaged the lock and closed his knife. I thought, did he just do what I thought he did? And I watched it again and again. I grabbed the closest knife I could try that with, the CS Recon1 clip point.

Everyone knows how the triad is a tad harder than most in disengaging and with this right hand of mine numb and the loss of a little bit of strength in that hand I have been closing it with the left hand. I tried what I saw AG doing in that video and freeking sure enough I closed the Recon1 backwards with one hand like I had been doing it for years and faster than he did his smaller knife. And the numbness and lack of strength in the right hand had no bearing on closing the knife whatsoever. I'm thrilled. But framelocks are no problem for me to close with my left hand and it being a right handed knife. Can't wait to try an axis lock. I'm glad my brain is wired weird.:D

Make sure to pick up a left handed Spyderco Military while you still can. I just picked up a second one because they just got discontinued.

Getting my first left handed knife - a left handed Sebenza - was a revelation. After that, it has been very difficult to bring myself to buy a right handed knife that I would reasonably carry around. Other than a few sprint run Military's (an XHP and an M390) I'm holding out for left handed knives.

Compression locks can kind of be okay for lefties, so if you want "super steels" the sprint run Para2's might be something to consider.

Did ALL Military's get discontinued, or just the LH?

Lefty here. Perfectly fine with my Delica4 Wave here. Planning on getting a Svord Peasant Knife Mini and a Benchmade 555HGPNK soon. Would be nice to see some lefty sheaths for non neck knife fixed blades though. In any case, it's a problem that we all have to work our way around.

another lefty here!!

A lot of spyderco models are really easy to use left handed. I commend them for drilling either 4pt holes or at least on both sides so that lefties can carry. My para 2 S90V is awesome and really easy to use lefty. same thing with any of the back lock models. And surprisingly the sage 1 is one of my favorite edc's.

Aside from that, I am spoiled with 2 lefty framelocks. a small micarta seb and a Ron Flaherty model 1. both are boss!

I also got STR to mod up my buck 110 and now it is lefty carry too. gotta love it! a modernized classic.
