Left the house without a blade...

I haven't been "into knives" for more than a year-and-a-half or so, but I have been consistently carrying something every day. Well, I left the house today without anything but a SwissCard. I realized it when I was in our shop looking at a piece of equipment. When I reached for my knife to scrape off some excess caulk I suddenly realized I was traveling "light". It's a strange feeling.

Tell me you have done this too so I don't get too worried about my mind.

Hi!

For me putting on knives is like putting on underwear, i seldom forget it, and as i usually carry more then one i usually don't forget'em all.

Get a neck knife, easy to put on and hard to forget

I know that feeling of suddenly realizing that you're "un-knifed"

My knives!

I had once gotten an hour out of town for a weekend getaway when I realized that my BM705 was still on my dresser. Like any sensible knife carrier, I turned around and went home to get it! So no, you're not alone.

I did that once. Took a road trip, got about 50+ miles out when I flipped a U-turn. Talk about hearing from the wife...

I still deal with that, however, now she makes sure I am carrying before we go anywhere.

If I happen to forget a knife, I feel NAKED all day long. Sorry about any involuntary visual images this information may induce.

I have done this a couple of times, and was too far away to go back to the house when I realized I forgot it. So, it was a good excuse for me to stop and buy me a new one. Once, the only place I could find that had knives was Wal-Mart, and I acquired a Buck crosslock. It did the job till I got home anyway.

If you think *forgetting* is bad, how about *knowing* that you have to leave everything at home!

my fiancee and I just took a weekend excursion down to Florida, and we were carrying-on all of our bags ... so no checked baggage in which to put one of my blades. *gasp* The horror! An entire weekend ... *plus* Friday ... with nothing. I felt naked the whole weekend; it was just a sucky feeling.

So, first thing I did when I got home? You guessed it ... flipped open the Gerber, flipped open the Kershaw Blackout, and clipped 'em both to my shorts. *relieved sigh*

Ahh, that's better.

Not a problem for me. I always have a knife in the travel case I use as a wallet, so unless I'm going somewhere without money or my driver's license, I'm not going there without a knife.

Took a recent trip to London and Paris and decided not to risk any confiscations/customs hassles so left all knives home. Heck, even my 'cheapy, don't care if it gets dinged up' is something I wouldn't want to lose when it comes down to it. TWO WEEKS - I felt underdressed and naked. Kept patting pockets but no reassuring little 'buddy' there.
After 10 hour flight home, rushed into house to open/caress BM722....aaahhhhhh

Funny, I thought I was the only one (*Joke*).

Yes, I do recognize myself in this situation.

However, it doesn´t stop there. Usually, I would carry those items:
1 EDC knife (usually Spyderco Military)
2 Photon Micro Light (white)
3 SwissTech UtiliKey (featuring a bottle opener)
4 P38 Can opener
5 A titanium, home made cork screw
6 Zippo lighter (engraved deer and leather sheath)
7 ASP Sapphire Light (blue)
8 Tracer Glow Ring (green)
9 Car- and home keys
10 Wallet and the usual stuff
11 RC to my car (Volvo 945, of course)
12 Handkerchief
13 Fiber glass duct tape
14 Safety pin
15 2 feet of nylon cord (.12)

The funny thing is that if there would be a single item missing, I´d feel uncomfortable, and call

For me to have gone out without a knife I must have left my pants at home. No, it hasn't happened.

Hi,

I keep an inexpensive Camillus lockback in my glove compartment. If I forget one of my EDC's (about once a year), at least I have something! I have been known to buy a liquor store special for $10.00 in an "emergency".

If I have forgotten to put a knife in my pocket it means I have left the house without my pants on.

I do the same as shealey, keep an extra in the car. I also keep an extra in my locker at work. Just goes to prove you can never have enought knives.

I do like Shealy does. I keep a Spydie Endura clipped in the map pocket of my car door. It is one of the older style with the plastic clip. When the new style came out, they were selling these in the low $20s to get rid of them. This means if it gets lost or stolen, I don't feel so bad. It gives me a back up if I forget my pocket knife, and is easier to get to sitting in the driver's seat, so I use it for opening anything, like packages or mail while seated in the car. BTW, I hope you can come to the Blade Show in Atlanta. Stop by booth 18-B and meet the whole group of NC Knife Knuts!

After about a block, I start to have trouble breathing. It's like the seatbelt is squeezing my chest, tighter and tighter, like a python. After two blocks it gets critical, my vision narrows, and I become disoriented. If I don't get back to the knife drawer quickly, I will lose consciousness in a matter of minutes, and without assistance, eventually die.

I still like the idea of just having a new excuse to get another knife. But I can't now considering that attached to the stick shift on my truck is a little tool pouch containing my gatco tristep sharpener, a gerber ez out, and a couple of the tiny SAKs.

walking around with no underwear is uncomfortable. walking around with no knife is unthinkable.
