Lefty Carry Options

Coastie,
I use a doubled piece of paracord. One end tied to the sheath, the other end looped through my belt. Works great, but the knife has to be repositioned occasionally. Still, it's nearly unnoticeable and there is no clip to snag on things.

On one hand openers I insist on lefty friendly designs. If the manufacturer doesn't want my business that's ok with me. There are plenty of great designs out there by manufacturers that do want my money.
Are you listening Kershaw? You have a bunch of designs that I would love but until you make them lefty friendly you are losing out on customers.

Dude, I feel this. Kershaw ESPECIALLY.

So just because I am curious? What is it that is difficult to do one handed with say the leek I posted. It is not a lefty design, but I can do everything I want or need with this knife 1 handed(left handed)

I've got a few lefties. A few I don't have pics of here

It's backwards. Can I carry it like that? Sure. Why should I though? I have options from manufacturers that make them work properly for lefties. I choose them.

Sorry I guess I never thought about it because I have never had a lefty. So from day one I have always used right handed designs so it nothing to me to use one. Seems normal. But you have me thinking and I might have to try out a lefty.

Great looking knives but I wanna see more of that truck. I love the raptor. It just isn't practical for me.But man they are bad ass.

It's a bad ass truck! My company provided me with it. Good thing because I could never afford the gas at 11MPG avg.

I have no problem drilling a knife for a pocket clip. It is a tool after all. I am not a lefty, but I don't understand why manufacturers don't pay more attention to the needs of lefties. I recommend the Axis lock to righties and lefties. The lock backs are not far behind as long as they offer ambidexterous pocket clips and thumbstuds.

Most of us are more or less ambidextrous since we live with mainly right handed tools and learn to adapt. Using tools made for lefties is a different world. Using right handed tools takes one or two extra steps for us. It's not that big a deal but I'm unwilling to deal with it if I don't need to.

As a lefty I've gotten to the point where it's simply hard for me to appreciate designs that aren't ambidextrous. I don't like frame or liner locks at all.

I do like the compression lock, it's easily workable with both hands

I don't mind framelocks or linerlocks as they don't (to me at least) require me to do anything out of the ordinary. I guess it's because I've been using them for so long it's become natural. To not put an ambi clip on a knife manufactured for the masses simply makes no sense to me though.

Do you by chance know the tap size for benchmade clip screws?

The last screw I checked was a #2X56TPI button head with #6 TORX recess. The lengths vary with handle thicknesses. The Titanium and Carbon fiber 940's/943's have round nuts imbedded in the handle. The Aluminum models have tapped handles.

Any of you other southpaws ever accidentally disengage a liner lock. I did while making feather sticks. Didn't get hurt but, made me look at my grip and how it happened. Now I stick with axis, compression and similar.

I used to think that my options are lefty or no knife. Now I just don't care how it is drilled. So long as I have a thumb stud to open it lefty I can make due with anything, be it lock or clip drilling. I actually even prefer standard frame or liner locks. They feel just fine to use.

I have never had a lock disengage on me, never even had one come close. Maybe I just adapted well to carrying a backwards knife

I'm pretty much ambidextrous, I will buy left handed folders or one's that can be converted. I have accidentally opened liner/frame locks before but I have known right handed people to do the same thing. That's just not a good lock. I EDC Leatherman's so I have to open them with my right hand, I would rather have the more versital tool on me than just a knife.

Thanks, I think i'll get a set of taps and give it a try!
