Legal Definition of Knife Length?

Then explain why mankind everywhere: developed, hunted and fought with much longer swords, spears and pole arms . Whenever possible .

If you don't understand why , maybe please try to understand , before speaking with false authority !
You are correct in saying that people carried and fought with swords, spears, halberds and various martial arts weapons including the bo, sai, nunchaku and tonfa. Of course, that would hardly be the case today. Which century are you referring to? As society became more civilized, the carrying of arms became more discreet. A British gentleman in Singapore typically carried a sword cane as part of his attire and an American gentleman often carried a large knife such as Bowie under a constantly-worn topcoat. Remember, the daily attire of those periods allowed for much better weapons concealment than modern dress does. If you can find a practical means of concealing a full-sized katana or a Scottish broadsword under a man's dress shirt or trousers and do it legally, please share with the rest of us. A 4" blade is the just about the right balance of convenience and cutting power for a concealed-carry EDC knife. As with everything else in life, there are trade-offs.
